Shout Out: Jessica Sek, hair stylist and scary movie fan – Chicago Tribune

Jessica Sek, 24, has worked as a master stylist at 18/8 Fine Men's Salons in the Glenbrook Market Place for more than two years. She graduated from Empire Beauty Schools in 2012. She lives in Mount Prospect and grew up in Chicago. She has an older brother and a younger sister.

Q: How do you like working at 18/8 Fine Men's Salons?

A: I absolutely love it. The clients are great, and my coworkers are awesome. We are one big family here.

Q: What inspired you to becomes a hair stylist?

A: I was actually going to school to be a dental hygienist, but after a little while I found out that wasn't for me. I've always liked creative things, like doing hair and nails, so I did that in the woman's industry for a little bit. Then I came here.

Q: Can you share an interesting interaction you've had with a client?

A: I have this client who comes in and cracks me up. We are both big scary movie buffs. He'll always tell me what I should watch, and I give him suggestions. When he comes in the next time, we don't even say hi, we just laugh because we know we have a lot to catch up on.

Q: If you had an unexpected day off, how would you spend it?

A: I'd probably go for a hike in the woods and end the day fishing. I like to spend my time outside if I can.

Q: Who do you look up to?

A: My mom. She's always been that solid rock in the family. She is very strong with a great personality. I definitely aspire to be like her one day.

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?

A: Going camping with my parents. We used to go to Wisconsin with the family and do a pig road and go fishing.
