A school was put on lockdown when a cocaine-fuelled bodybuilder wearing a Dracula mask was spotted brandishing two kitchen knives.

A pair of terrified women came across drunken Jamie Martin shouting and screaming near Somerville Primary School in Wallasey.

The 32-year-old steroid-user was holding two large knives in Hothfield Road at around 8.50am on Monday, November 21 last year.

Liverpool Crown Court heard armed police were called and staff at the Northbrook Road school put measures in place to protect pupils.

Jennifer Hunt, prosecuting, said: He was wearing a black and white plastic childrens Dracula mask on the top of his head and carrying two kitchen knives.

He had one in each hand. He was seen by a Sky TV worker to put one of the kitchen knives in a pizza box in a bin.

Martin, of Old Bidston Road, Birkenhead, was arrested at the scene but continued to be abusive during police interviews.

When shown a photograph of one of the knives, which was recovered by police, the dad shouted bull**** and b******s.

He said: I dont care how f***ed or p***ed I am, I dont carry knives. I never have.

Martin, whose previous convictions include being drunk and disorderly, admitted possessing a blade and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.

Anna Duke, defending, said: He just cant remember what has happened. He doesnt think that the witnesses were in fact lying.

It was quite bizarre and quite unusual. It seems to be indicative of the fact that he had mixed alcohol with cocaine.

Judge Patrick Thompson said: He accepts that he takes steroids. I dont suppose they mix particularly well with alcohol at 9am.

Ms Duke said her client worked as a chef and had hoped to be promoted to the role of sous-chef.

However, she said this, along with contact with his 14-year-old daughter, had been put on hold as a result of the incident.

She added: He is remorseful and mortified in relation to these matters.

Judge Thompson said: Why a 32-year-old man would be wandering around with two kitchen knives and a Dracula mask at 9am is quite beyond me.

This was broad daylight. Two young women were terrified on seeing you and quite rightly so.

You caused a primary school to be on lockdown - no doubt the teachers fearing that some sort of maniac was on the loose.

Youre a user of steroids, youre an abuser of alcohol and that, combined with somebody with knives in their hand, can lead to a very serious tragedy.

The judge said Martins behaviour in his interview was disgraceful but accepted he was ashamed of his actions.

He handed him eight months in prison, suspended for two years, with a six-month alcohol treatment course and 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

Ordering he carry out 100 hours of unpaid work, Judge Thompson said: You are being given a golden opportunity to try to sort your life out.
