‘The Vampire Diaries’ Series Finale Teaser Shows Nina Dobrev’s Return – TeenVogue.com

The past few months have been an emotional rollercoaster for fans of The Vampire Diaries. With the eighth and final season coming to a conclusion in only four episodes, devotees of the show are finding it a bittersweet pill to swallow. But as badly as they don't want to bid farewell to the residents of Mystic Falls, viewers are hungry for answers about how it will all end. Now that the show's final episode less than a month away, the CW is starting to tease fans with what that ending might look like by releasing a new promo of the series finale.

On Monday, a ten second trailer for the final episode hit the internet and while it's brief, it gives us our first look at Elena Gilbert's triumphant return to the show. Though Nina Dobrev confirmed her character would return to The Vampire Diaries last month with a cheeky Instagram post, the cast has and crew has been incredibly tight-lipped on what her reappearance would look like until now. In the thrilling clip, we see Elena's reflection starring into a case of trophies and memorabilia at Mystic Falls High. "What happened? Why am I here right now?" she says with a note of confusion in her voice, which is understandable given that the last time we saw her she was locked in a coffin.

The clip sent Twitter users into a frenzy, with many simply exclaiming her name in all caps. "ELENA GILBERT IN THE FLESH I'M SOBBING IT'S BEEN 84 YEARS," one user tweeted. Though the clip doesn't offer much insight into how Elena's story will end, it didn't stop fans from wildly speculating about who she might end up with in the finale.

Sadly, those hungry for more details will have to be patient and wait to see what happens when The Vampire Diaries finale airs on March 10th. In the meantime, you can give your tear ducts a workout by reading the emotional farewells and tributes the cast wrote after filming wrapped in Atlanta last week. Trust us, you're going to need a lot of tissues.
