‘The Walking Dead’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan Responds To Racist T-Shirt Controversy: People Are Stupid – Decider

Where to Stream

During its time on the air, The Walking Dead has stirred up its fair share of controversy. However, this may be one of the shows more confusing scandals, and it doesnt even have to do with a characters death.

Earlier this week, The Wrap reported that a Walking Dead T-shirt had been removed from a British clothing retailer because of a complaint that it was racist and fantastically offensive. The shirt in question features an image of a barbed-wire-wrapped baseball bat with the words Eeny Meeny Miny Moe. If youre a Walking Dead fan or if you were on the internet at all last October, you probably recognize the shirt as a reference Negans (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) iconic killing spree. The scene was like the Red Wedding for The Walking Dead, except it left most of the shows fanbase adamantly hating the series.

In the episode, Negan continues the rhyme by saying catch a tiger by the toe. However, in the U.K., the rhyme typically uses a racial slurinstead of tiger. Seeing an official piece of show merchandise that seems to be violently racist understandably made some sections of the internet very upset. It is also equally believable that The Walking Dead used this line and licensed this shirt without ever thinking about the historic or international implications of this rhyme.

However, Jeffrey Dean Morgan hears all of these arguments, and hes having none of it. On Wednesday, Morgan tweeted out a link to the article, writing holy crap people are stupid. Let this be a lesson, The Walking Dead. You can get negative press attention without killing off everyones favorite characters.
