Dracula Untold director to helm vampire movie Red River – Blastr

From one vampire movie to the next. Dracula Untold helmer Gary Shore has been tapped to direct Red River, a movie about (yep) a vampire from a screenplay penned by Ronan Blaney (Love Bite).

According to Deadline, Red River is set in an isolated town in Ireland, where a bloodthirsty drifter befriends an immigrant family and avenges their murdered father. Right. So. At first glance, bloodthirsty drifter doesnt actually scream V A M P I R E. However, Shore did indeed confirm that drifter is of the bloodsucking variety, saying:

A story about a vampire hell-bent on teaching an isolated town a thing or two about its treatment of outsiders is a valuable reminder that man is capable of being the real monster. I love Ronans script heartbreaking, violent and touching all at once. With influences like High Plaines Drifter, Shane and Let the Right One In, its definitely an original in the genre with the potential to be a modern classic.

Currently in preproduction in Northern Ireland (meaning, well be getting some stunning scenery, y'all) and set to shoot later this year,Red River will be produced by Mark Huffam (The Martian, Alien: Covenant). The movie will be shopped around inCannes this week.

While I wasnt a big fan of Dracula Untold (I really liked Luke Evans in the title role, though, but I found the overall film disappointing), Im confident Gary Shore will bring his visual flair to Red River. And hey, its a vampire movie set in Ireland! Whats not to like? Hopefully, Blaneys script (dude is a BAFTA and Oscar nominee after all) will deliver a solid vampire story a la Let the Right One In. I'm totally down for a new vampire classic.
