THE new remake of horror classic It has been tipped to make 38million in the biggest September opening weekend of all time after critics hailed it as the one of the best films of the year.

The new version of Steven King's best-selling book is already on the way to becoming one of the biggest cinema releases of 2017.

The new movie is slated to hit cinemas next month, 31 years after the release of the author's iconic 1986 book about a sinister force terrorising the town of Derry, Maine.

As local children start to go missing, a group of plucky kids team up and try to figure out how to find 'IT' - and stop it.

When the remake was announced, many fans were unsure whether or not it could live up to the 1990 mini-series starring Tim Curry.

But the first reviews are in and critics have heaped praise on the movie, calling it "polished", "surprisingly funny" and suggesting it is one of the best movies of the year.

A report published on movie industry Bible The Hollywood Reporter also predicts It will score the biggest ever September weekend debut.

The film look set to rake in around38million at the box office as fans of the book and the original TV series flock to cinemas.

One critic wrote: "#ITMovie: a carnival funhouse of a film; loud, scary, funny. And best of all: it has heart. #It."

Another reviewer added: "IT is creepy, bloody, super funny, adorably romantic and hands down among my favorite movies of the year."

A third gushed: "#ITMovie is a very handsome, polished execution of a story you know inside out.

"The big surprise is Finn Wolfhard. Really earns his spot."

The genuinely terrifying trailer shows the infamous Pennywise clown up to no good as he picks off a child in a yellow mac after he's discovered in a sewer.

As the young boy, seemingly Bill's doomed brother Georgie, follows a paper boat, he's left chasing it as it's caught up in the pouring rain and sent down a drain.

When he looks down to try and get it back - he's met with the horrifying clown staring back at him.

Bill and his pals later go on a mission to find him, and their investigation leads them into the sewers - and the horrors that await them there.

In another clip, they find themselves horrified as a projector takes on a life of its own and reveals the face of the clown that has been torturing them all.

Will they be able to outwit the murderous and devilish clown?

IT, which will be released in September, is the firstof two films released on the horror novel - and is the second time the book has been adapted.

Where the first film was based in 1989, the second half will follow the surviving children 30 years later, and how their time with Pennywise has changed their lives forever.

Swedish star Bill Skarsgard will be taking on the role of the cult icon Pennywise in the film - with the trailer airing at this year's CinemaCon.

Stranger Things' Finn Wolfhard will also be taking the lead in one of the films.

IT will open in cinemas on September 8.
