Harvard Film Archive to host vampire movie marathon over Labor Day weekend – The Boston Globe

Calling all creatures of the night: the Harvard Film Archive is hosting 12-hour marathon of vampire movies starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The lineup for Night of the Vampire includes seven films, which rangein age, country of origin, and language. Harvard Film Archive programmer David Pendleton said that because vampire movies have long been prevalent and popular, he had plenty to choose from, but that curators took care to keep the events programming eclectic.

We knew right away that [vampires] was a great theme because its a theme that runs throughout film history, and theres vampire films from all over the world, Pendleton said. He added, If youre going to stay up all night watching films that are related to a similar theme, you want a little bit of variety, too.

Dont expect to see Robert Pattinson sparkle or Bela Lugosi sport his fangs and white bow-tie, either. Pendleton said they chose films that people likely havent seen before, such as 1983s The Hunger, which stars David Bowie, and 2001s Trouble Every Day, which takes place in Paris and has some French dialogue.

Thats what we do, is try to curate an experience that people cant get elsewhere, Pendleton said.

The Harvard Archive has run a marathon every Labor Day weekend for more than five years. Last years theme was trains. The year before that, it showed heist films.
