The Walking Dead among most tweeted shows of 2019 – Undead Walking

Its nice to know that after ten seasons The Walking Dead is still going strong on social media, thanks in large part to members of the TWD Family and their enthusiasm for live tweeting each week. In fact, The Walking Dead joined several other popular TV shows as one of the most tweeted shows of 2019.

According to Twitters blog, Game of Thrones came in at the top of the list as the most tweeted show of 2019, and The Walking Dead came in at No. 9. The other shows included Stranger Things, The Simpsons, La Casa de Papel, Greys Anatomy, Love Island, Catfish: The TV Show, Family Guy and Narcos came in at No. 10.

Its quite a mixture of broadcast, cable and streaming shows, which is reflective of the overall television landscape these days. Twitter was quick to clarify that the list is made up of the number of people tweeting about the show, and not how many tweets came through about it. Thats an important distinction because it shows how many people the show reached rather than a smaller number of people using the shows hashtag over and over again.

The list also demonstrated that there is little difference between shows that air weekly, like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, and shows from streaming services that drop whole seasons at a time. With weekly shows, social media follows a pattern leading up to the day to the episode airs along with a postmortem water cooler period the following day.

Shows like Stranger Things dont have a set air time and so the conversations about them happen leading up to the season premiere and for days and weeks afterwards as viewers enjoy the complete season at their own pace. Even so, streaming shows can still keep up with the weekly shows and it will be interesting to see how the television landscape will change in the future.

The big question, of course, is which television show will dethrone Game of Thrones now that the HBO juggernaut is off the air. With such a strong showing in 9B and 10A, theres every reason to believe that The Walking Dead has a chance to return to the top five spots in 2020.
