The 10 Worst New Horror Movie Characters Of The Decade, Ranked – Screen Rant

Even for a decade full of great horror movies, the decade also churned out bad horror movies that just question the credibility of the genre. The factors can come down to many forms of how some horror film from the last decade end up as genuinely bad. Most notable are their characters, who can range from poorly conceived to badly executed. And it makes them harder to root for.

For this list, here is a rundown of the worst new horror movie characters of the last decade. Even for non-horror fans, these horror characters will end up in anyones skin.

Blumhouses Truth or Dare is just another attempt to conceive a horror film out of the most mundane activities. A horror movie based on the truth-or-dare game is an easy concept to pull out for several horror films in the past that it is just laughable that one centered on it was conceived in the first place.

Thus, this trite conception goes well with its characters, particularly Lucy Hales Olivia, who stupidly followed a stranger for a drunken session of truth-and-dare and had to follow the demonic dares stupendously.

Eli Roths mainstream cannibal snuff film is already controversial to begin with, with its savage depiction of natives for more shock value. And just one of the worst aspects of it are the characters, who could range from haplessly stupid to hugely annoying.

It is hard to root for these college characters who have noble intentions but execute the cause ludicrously by chaining to a bulldozer in protest. And when those kids get captured by the tribe, it is hard to root for them for their poor decisions. Just unwatchable.

As previously mentioned, with the saturation of horror movies, horror has been desperate for ideas, including an Ouija boardgame. At this rate, a horror film about a haunted Magic 8-ball is inevitable.

Still, a horror movie about a boardgame that allows people to communicate with the dead could work. But this is not the case. The main culprit is the main character Laine. No offense to Olivia Cooke, but her vapid characterization (and her decision of unintentionally releasing a spirit at the advice of a crazy woman) is profoundly stupid.

Some horror movies from the past decade introduced characters that would be iconic for a great time. But for every Pennywise, there is the Bye Bye Man. He is an evil entity that is summoned when his name is dictated after chanting Don't say it, don't think it.

What puts The Bye Bye Man on the list is his stupid way to give punishments for those who summon his name. The way the characters have to deal with his plight adds more to the hilarity and less to his intimidation.

For some reason, Eli Roths horror movie got the remake treatment with a dreadful 2016 update that updates nothing from the original, aside from some camera angles and dialogue. If there is one thing to commend on the original, it is that there are attempts on trying to be scary.

Unlike here, the attempts at scares just made the experience numbing. The most ineffective scare comes earlier from a boy with a paper plate rabbit mask that may look scary, but one character has to explain the obvious. Boo!

Here is a total bummer from a movie that does not require the identity of its main perpetrators. The premise of Black Christmas is an urgent commentary of stalker crimes yet still is a touchstone on the slasher film genre.

The 2019 remake bungled the plot in ludicrous fashion by pointing out the main suspects behind the harassment crimes. The AKO Frats are just baffling to comprehend as they are portrayed as cartoonishly evil alpha males with no jurisdiction or shred of humanity to force in the feminist message.

It was shocking to learn Paper Towns Jaz Sinclair was nominated for Worst Supporting Actress for Slender Man. But upon checking the film, it is pretty reasonable why she is reviled. Not only was her acting horrible but her decisions as a character are just dumb.

The main girls of the film head off to the woods to search for personal items blindfolded, which is stupid in of itself. However, one of the girls, Chloe, takes off her blindfolded and panics until she bumps right into Slender Man. Just why?!

The Devil Inside isconsidered to be one of the worst horror movies of the decade. And that could come to its characters. The premise of this dreaded mess is centered on a documentary crew covering the saga of Isabelle Rossi, who wanted to uncover the mystery of her mother murdering three people. But her mother is presumed to be possessed.

The subject of the movie, Isabelles mother Maria Rossi, is the least intimidating possessed person because of her over-the-top acting and her unpredictable personality. Her possession does not make her scary.

And on the other end of the spectrum from atrocious horror flicks, here is from the unintentionally hilarious spectrum. From the mind of James Nguyen comes Birdemic. There is a lot to talk about of how poorly conceived and laughably executed it is.

But on talking about the characters, the most notable is Rod, the bland male lead whom James modeled after himself, being a successful software salesman. Alan Bagh gave life to him like a robot reading off lines. And the way he fights the birds is comedic gold.

Arguably, the Human Centipede trilogy is just one of the most revolting trilogies of all time. The movies have been noted for their exploitative shock value, the excessive violence and the gross content. Those despotic content are manifested from Martin Lomax, the mastermind of the Human Centipede operation for Part 2, The Full Sequence.

Setting aside his abusive upbringing and his mental illness, his resulting actions are downright deranged and despicable. His victims do not deserve his psychopathic treatment. And his resulting experiments are absent of moral fiber. While that makes him a scary adversary, it made him a detested figure.
