The Walking Dead viewers may have watched the midseason premiere on FOX UK, but that doesn't actually mean they saw it.

There seem to be constant complaints about the Walking Dead franchise from its very passionate fans these days, whether they are about characters being killed off, controversial creative choices or any number of gripes.

But the latest criticism from viewers doesn't have anything to do with the plot, necessarily. The show returned from its midseason break on Monday night (February 24) in the UK, picking up from its big cliffhanger of Daryl (Norman Reedus) and friends trapped in a cave with a horde.

Most of the episode took place in a pitch-black cave, as Daryl, Carol (Melissa McBride) and the rest fought their way through walkers to reach the cave's exit. Can you see the problem already?

Setting much of the episode in a pitch-black cave made it near-on impossible for many viewers to follow what the heck was actually happening! Think back to the backlash to Game of Thrones' Battle of Winterfell last year for a similar reaction.

Social media was flooded with tweets from FOX UK viewers complaining that they couldn't "see a motherf**king thing" and that premiere 'Squeeze' was "like looking at a black screen" because it was so dark:

The midseason premiere was dark in a completely different way too unfortunately, the creepy sex scene between Alpha (Samantha Morton) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) was visible whether anyone wanted it to be or not.

"It came together in this organic and fun way where the writer had a great take on the relationship from the comic book," showrunner Angela Kang has said of the disturbing scene.

"We had a fun time coming up with a way to show this to our audience in a way that's safe for basic cable but also still surprising."

We imagine viewers wished they could trade the 'dark' cave scenes for Negan and Alpha's sexy time!

The Walking Dead airs on Mondays at 9pm on FOX in the UK. You can also catch up on the show via NOW TV. In the US, the show airs on Sundays at 9/8c on AMC.
