A wheelchair-bound man has told of his despair after he was plunged into darkness for days after the lightbulb in his living room ceiling blew.
Christopher Lee was left stressed out about the prospect of living indefinitely in a pitch-black property after his lightbulb blew.
The double amputee has had both his legs removed after developing serious health complications - so fixing it himself was never an option.
He claims his landlord, Plymouth Community Homes, had initially spoken of getting an engineer out.
But the call-out charge was 20 and the appointment was cancelled and no alternative date transpired, Christopher explained.
Christopher, of Taunton Avenue, Whitleigh, also claimed his contract only entitled him to two PCH maintenance visits a year and feared any new bulb would blow again and leave him in dire straits.
He said he was hampered further because he has no immediate family and in the process of changing care provider.
Plymouth Community Homes confirmed Christopher had called to get a new bulb but was advised to make arrangements via its subsidised 'handy person' service - as it wasn't classified as an actual repair.
In the meantime, the former cleaner has a temporary arrangement in place after Plymouth Live swapped his duff bulb with his working hallway light.
"I'm really chuffed," Christopher said. "The front room is now lit again, I can actually see the front door.
"It means I've actually got proper light back in my house."
Christopher previously fumed about the way the situation had been dumped in his lap.
"This is how pathetic it is, I am on my own so I get on with life as best I can, but whenever I rang up (PCH), it didn't want to know," he said.
"My quality of life had been rubbish. If I'd have had an engineer out to fix my bulb, I wouldn't then be entitled to another one until the end of the year.
"So if that bulb went again, I could have been in darkness for months."
Christopher lifted the lid on his ordeal trying to fix something which for so many is such a simple job.
"It was just a nightmare," he explained. "PCH kept saying to me, they would send someone out, but that I wouldn't be able to have another one again.
"It was driving me insane. I was told someone would come out yesterday (Wednesday), but that never happened.
"But they wanted me to arrange a handyman to come out and give him the 20 for them to fit the new bulb."
Frustrated Christopher revealed he'd also been billed 65 for a new door key and a similar cost for a replacement shed one.
"That 20 fee to have someone come out to fit a new bulb is a lot of money," he said.
"From PIP, I get 404 and my ESA is 310, and that's all I get to live on and pay my bills for the whole month.
"My rent is paid, but then I have to pay gas, electricity, food clothes, and items for my house.
"I do my own food shopping (by going out on my scooter), but with great difficulty."
In a statement, a Plymouth Community Homes spokesman said: "Mr Lee called us to request a lightbulb replacement and we have informed him that this isnt classed as a repair, however he was advised of our subsidised handy person service for jobs of this nature."
Christopher's plight comes after Plymouth Live revealed how leaseholders in Vauxhall Street were being made to pay thousands towards improvement works on a PCH estate near the Barbican.
Universal Credit claimant Sheila Shepherd told how she'd been lumbered with a bill for more than 12,000 which she has to pay over monthly installments or else consider a loan or worse still sell her home.
PCH said it would support anyone who was struggling with their financial responsibilities, which they would have agreed to when signing their lease.
