Every Horror Movie Delayed by the Coronavirus Outbreak (So Far) – Screen Rant

Like the movie industry as a whole, the world of horror movies is already sustaining major delays and setbacks due to the Coronavirus outbreak. It's a weird time for America, and the world at large. The Coronavirus - also known as COVID-19 - is infecting thousands all over the globe, and the number of new confirmed cases just keeps going up. This has led many governments, including state and local governments within the U.S., to impose what some would call draconian measures designed to try and get things under control.

Social distancing is becoming a phrase commonly repeated, as Americans are encouraged to avoid crowds of more than a few people, and are in some ways being forced to, as movie theaters, theme parks, concert venues, and other entertainment sources close for the foreseeable future. Of course, if doing this saves lives, and most health professionals believe it will, than Americans all but being explicitly confined to their homes will hopefully be worth it in the long run.

Hollywood has been very hard hit by the Coronavirus, as not only have the aforementioned theater closures necessitated movies being delayed or removed from the release schedule, but production on basically every major film and TV show has come to a halt. This is no different for horror movies, as several big titles have already been bitten by the Coronavirus bug.

Writer/director John Krasinski's sequel A Quiet Place Part 2 was previously slated to release in theaters on March 20, 2020. Sadly, it became one of the first Hollywood casualties of the Coronavirus outbreak, and is now supposed to come out sometime later this year.

The New Mutants, directed by Josh Boone, was to be the first X-Men horror film, but instead became the last hurrah for the original franchise after Disney bought Fox. It's already been delayed multiple times, most recently to April 3, 2020, and is now off the schedule again.

This fairly mysterious, Guillermo del Toro-produced creature horror film was until recently set to hit theaters on April 17, 2020. A Fox Searchlight film, Disney is also now in control of Antlers, and so far has yet to set a new release date amid the ever-growing outbreak.

Antebellum, another fairly mysterious film, stars Janelle Monae as an author sucked into a terrifying alternate reality from which she can't escape. Lionsgate had Antebellum slated for release on April 24, but it's now yet another movie without a current release date.

Like New Mutants, Run has been in the can for quite a long time, and already been delayed before. The horror/thriller focuses on a home-schooled daughter who comes to believe that her smothering mother (Sarah Paulson) is hiding something dark from her. Run was dated for May 8, but is now off the schedule.

Spiral: From the Book of Saw, aka Saw 9, stars Chris Rock as a detective investigating murders similar to Jigsaw's past crimes. The new game was set to begin on May 15, and as with the rest of these Coronavirus-related delays, Lionsgate has yet to assign a new release date.

Based on a 2018 novel, The Woman in the Window stars Amy Adams as a psychologist with agoraphobia that finally sees her life brighten after making friends with a neighbor, only to see things get dark again when that neighbor disappears under suspicious circumstances. May 15 was the film's original date, now it's without one.

Production on Shrine, an adaptation of author James Herbert's 1983 horror novel of the same name, has had production put on hold for at least four weeks due to Coronavirus concerns. The Walking Dead's Jeffrey Dean Morgan stars as a disgraced reporter who uses miracles of possibly sinister origin to get back in the spotlight.
