Horror movies are responsible for some of ourscariest memories. There are movies that we saw in our childhood that we would never even consider watching again due to their disturbing and lasting effect on our psyche. However, it is due to horror movies' effect on us that movie studios constantly attempt to remake them, relying on brand recognition, low budget requirements, and easy marketing in order to make a quick profit. That being said, churning outremakes can often lead to classics being butchered.

This article will list five horror movies that should be remade and five that should be left alone.
The Amityville Horror is one of the most infamous haunting stories of all time. Despite the fact that many of the events described by the former owners of the house, George and Kathy Lutz, have been disputed, causing many to believe the whole thing was a hoax, many are still intrigued by the Lutzs' story.
While The Amityville Horror had a movie adaptation in 1979 and a remake in 2005, both of these movies were far from fantastic, and aConjuring-style remake of the infamous haunting would be very welcome.
Due to the fact thatTrain to Busan was a successful South Korean movie, American movie studios have been salivating over remaking the movie for several years. However, a remake of the movie would be incredibly pointless and add very little, if anything, to the story. In addition, Hollywood remakes of foreign movies tend to be consistently worse than the original.
The titular creature in TheCreature From the Black Lagoonis one of the most iconic movie monsters of all time. Released in 1954, the movie tells the story of a group of researchers who travel along the Amazon River in pursuit of a creature known as the Gill-Man that is said to live in Black Lagoon.
While the film is a fun watch and remains enjoyable today, there's no denying that a modern movie with advanced special effects could tell a more visually appealing story if handled correctly.
The Birdsis one of Alfred Hitchcock's most iconic and memorable movies. Adapted from the book of the same name by Daphne du Maurier,The Birdsfollows a cast of characters as they live through a series of random, terrifying, and violent attacks by birds on humans.

Not only because isThe Birds a classic film that would be difficult to remake and add anything new of substance, but also because it is one of those movies that only Alfred Hitchcock could make.
Starring the legendary Vincent Price as an eccentric millionaire,House on Haunted Hillfollows five guests as they try and stay in a haunted house overnight in order to win $10,000 dollars from wealthy eccentric, Frederick Loren (Price). While thefilm would be considered camp by modern standards, it helped to introduce several elements of "haunted house" stories that have become commonplace in horror movies today.
There have been some remakes of this 1959 horror classic have been attempted, but none have actually lived up to the original in terms of quality. However, this is not to say that it would be impossible to do it, and with modern technology, it could even improve the story in several areas.
Goodnight Mommyis a terrifying and disturbing psychological horror movie from Austria. The film follows two twins, Elias and Lukas, as they come to believe that their mother isn't actually their mother aftershe returns from hospital having underwent facial surgery.

As in the case ofTrain to Busan, Hollywood loves to remake foreign-language films for American audiences, and it rarely works out. In the case ofGoodnight Mommy, there is a distinctly European flavor to the film that would make it incredibly difficult to adapt for Hollywood.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hydeis a 1931 horror movie based on the book by Robert Louis Stevenson. The film follows a mild-mannered Englishman named Dr. Jekyll as he drinks a potion that turns him into the evil, homicidal Mr. Hyde.
Fredric March would go on to receive an Academy Award for his performance as both Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Despite the fact that the movie was incredibly popular and still influential to this day, modern visuals would certainly allow for a different cinematic experience.
It should go without saying thatThe Shining should not be remade. Based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King, directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall, The Shining isone of the most iconic horror movies of all time.It follows a young family as they live in the Overlook Hotel for the winter, showing their experiences in this terrifying place.
Not only would a remake offer nothing new to the story, but it would also lead to an outcry from diehard fans of the movie.
Released in 1922 as an unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker'sDracula novel,Nosferatu is one of the most noteworthy horror movies of all time, with the film leaning heavily into its visuals in order to terrify audiences and introduce them to the vampire mythos.
While it would undoubtedly be difficult to remakeNosferatu, doing so would certainly offer a new take on the movie and character that would beexciting to watch in modern times.
Based on the 1971 book of the same name and released in 1973, William Friedkin'sThe Exorcistis one of the most infamous, controversial, and terrifying movies of all time. Upon its release, the movie even received complaints from several priests and members of the Catholic Church.
In the same manner as TheShining, remakingthe Exorcist would offer little if anything new to the story, and would simply exist as a money-maker for a movie studio.
