‘Vampire Diaries’ Star Kat Graham Talks Hollywood Beauty Standards And Having To Wear ‘A Wig’ – TheThings

During the routine, Graham was brought to tears by a product that has done wonders for her hair.

In the video series titled Beauty Secrets by Vogue, The Vampire Diaries actress Kat Graham opens up about the Hollywood beauty standards forced upon her as a black actress.

Graham is best known for playing Bonnie Bennett, a powerful witch thats best friends with Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), the shows main female protagonist.

In the video, she took viewers on a journey through her natural hair beauty routine. As she takes out her four braids, she reveals that quarantine motivated her to fully embrace her hair.

This is not ever something I would have to do. I would keep my hair in cornrows and just throw on a wig because most of the jobs that I had done as an actress, they wanted a certain look, she said. Its been really therapeutic for me to just wear my hair.

While filming The Vampire Diaries, she revealed that wearing a lace front damaged her hair for many years.

The glue, the wig clips, and the braids were hard on my hair, she said. After that, I said Im done. I just want to have a master fro.

Throughout her career, Graham has struggled to accept her natural hair. If she didnt wear a wig, she was forced to straighten her hair. Graham describes her afro hair texture as something the entertainment industry has never fully embraced.

During the routine, Graham was brought to tears by a product that has done wonders for her hair. The product was the Cantu Leave-In Conditioner. She explained how the gift turned into a life-changing moment.

Ive never had to be on my own with my hair. I really love this product because this was the product that helped me figure out that my hair will work with me if I dont give up on it, she said.

In the future, Graham hopes to play a character that will allow her to wear her natural hair on the big screen.

I hope that one day I can play a character that I actually look like," she said.

All eight seasons of The Vampire Diaries is currently streaming on Netflix.
