The Originals: What The Main Cast Has Done Since The Show Ended – Screen Rant

The Originals aired for five years on The Cw and had a loyal fanbase. What happened to the main cast after the cameras stopped rolling.

The Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals featured a cast of charismatic anti-heroes, but the stars of the series have moved on to a variety of projects leaving their onscreen bad behavior behind. The Originals, created by Julie Plec, which aired from 2014 to 2018, didn't achieve the same popularity as The Vampire Diaries. However, the series still amassed a loyal fan base (a trilogy of books chronicling the Original siblings' exploits in New Orleans during the 18th century were released in 2015). The series centered around the Mikaelsons, the first vampires, earning them the moniker the Originals. The Originals was darker fare, focusing primarily on the complexity of family dynamics with a supernatural twist.

Before The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, the majority of the main cast appeared in short-lived TV shows, made for TV movies and forgettable big-screen roles. Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley Marshall) starred as Cleo in the Australian fantasy series H2o: Just Add Water(2006-2010), alongside her Originals co-star Claire Holt who left after season 2. The series remains immensely popular thanks to syndication. It airs in 120 countries with a worldwide audience of over 250 million viewers.

It's upon entering The Vampire Diaries universe that many of its actors achieved widespread notoriety. After the cancellation of The Originals, the main cast members have continued to appear on the small and big screens. The following is what the main cast has done since the series ended.

Klaus Mikaelson was the devious, manipulative, power-hungry black sheep of the Mikaelson clan whose first appearance on The Vampire Diaries involved the sacrifice of doppelganger Elena Gilbert. Toward the end of the series, he found redemption, sacrificing his life to save his daughter. In 2018 Morgan was slated to play private detective Patrick Kenzie in the small-screen adaptation of Gone Baby Gone based on the Dennis Lehane novel of the same name. Ben Affleck directed the big-screen adaptation in 2007, starring his brother Casey Affleck. In 2018 FOX greenlighted the pilot order for the TV adaptation from Black Sails creator Robert Levine. The network ultimately passed.

Elijah Mikaelson, known to be the most honorable of the Mikaelsons, spent 1,000 years trying to keep the family together and Klaus on the path to redemption. During The Originals, Daniel Gillies also appeared as Dr. Joel Goran (2012-2015) on NBC's Saving Hope. After the cancellation of The Originals, Gillies appeared on the pilot of CBS' Seal Team, and the recurring role of Mark Monroe on season 1 of Netflix's Virgin River. He also starred in the Lifetime movie The Lost Wife of Robert Durst. Gillies's upcoming film Occupation: Rainfallis the sequel to the Australian science fiction action film written and directed by Luke Sparke.

Throughout the series, Marcel and Klaus battled for control over the supernatural factions of New Orleans. Marcel was also Rebekah Mikaelson's only love interest for the duration of the show. Claire Holt's character Rebekah Mikaelson made sporadic appearances throughout the show's five seasons. Holt's absence can be attributed to her side projects, which included the pilot for ABC's Doomsday, NBC's Aquarius, and the feature film 47 Meters Down. Rebekah returned to New Orleans to lend a hand during most family crises. Rebekah, who always craved mortality, was granted her wish during the finale when Klaus told her she could take the cure for vampirism. She also agreed to marry her on-again-off-again love, Marcel. Holt appeared in three movies in 2019: The Divorce Party, A Violent Separation, and Painted Beauty.

Josh was a vampire and a recurring character for four seasons. He was promoted to a series regular during season 5. Josh was Marcel's loyal confidante, and Davina's best friend. He also provided much needed comic relief on the supernatural drama. Sadly, Josh died tragically after being injected with werewolf venom. During Krueger's time as a recurring character, he appeared in two TV movies, an episode of CBS's Hawaii Five-O, and the film Goosebumps. Since The Originals, Krueger has appeared on the Freeform series Good Trouble and CBS's NCIS. Krueger is set to appear in the Yellowjackets pilot, Showtime's horror survivalist drama. The show is about a team of female soccer players who survive a plane crash and wind up stranded in the Ontario wilderness.

Cami was the Caroline Forbes look-alike with a tragic past. She and Klaus enjoyed an intense flirtation until beginning their short-lived romance during season 3. Klaus' vengeful ex turned Cami into a vampire, and she died from a werewolf bite. Leah Pipes scored a recurring role as Fiona on The CW's Charmed reboot during its first season.
