Lake George will show family-friendly scary movies on the big outdoor screen on Saturdays in October.

Lake Georges festival space in Charles R. Wood Park will turn into a drive-in movie theater for a series of evening, Halloween-themed film screenings.

"Well be doing Beetlejuice, Hocus Pocus, [and] Nightmare Before Christmas," said Mayor Robert Blais, explaining the village wanted to give locals and visitors something different to do this fall that still allowed for COVID-19 safety measures.

"We're going to have an intermission each evening and on the very first evening we're going to have the world's first world championship facemask contest," he said, with a childrens costume contest and Halloween mask competition in the following weeks.

Tickets to the screenings will be sold in advance. Attendees will be able to tune into the film's audio through their car radio and order food and popcorn delivered to their vehicle.

The festival space has sat empty for much of the summer due to the pandemic but the Mayors hoping for state approval to also hold a drive-in version of the Lake George Music Festival in late September.
