For the 10th anniversary of its signature fall event, Urbanity Dancea cutting-edge contemporary companywill escort guests in self-selected quarantine pods through a series of site-specific performances in the neighborhood streets. This years crawl, titled Hyper Linked, runs September 24 to 26 and explores ideas of human connection. Sounds like a groovy antidote for our isolating times.

Opening September 30, the Institute of Contemporary Arts first post-pandemic exhibition is perfect for the #AloneTogether era. A massive sound and video installation by Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson, The Visitors cobbles together an hourlong composition from footage of folk-gospel musicians performing within quarantined rooms of the same sprawling farmhouse. Kjartansson, for instance, is seen strumming his guitar in the bathtub.

Thats the anti-Trump tag line for this years scary-movie showcase, which always wraps progressive political and social themes into its programming. The now-virtual lineup of filmmaker panels and screenings (October 111) includes Death Drop Gorgeousa campy slasher comedy set in the grime-and-glitter-spackled scene of Providence, Rhode Island, drag barswhich features knife-sharp commentary on ageism in the LGBTQ community.

But Visionary New England, an illuminating exhibition that opens October 8 at Lincolns deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, uses paintings, site-specific installations, and other mediums to highlight the many forward-thinking, far-out leaders in spiritualism, utopianism, animism, and other mystic paths who have also emerged from this part of the country.

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum has extended through October 12 its acclaimed exhibition Bostons Apollo: Thomas McKeller and John Singer Sargent. McKeller was Sargents main nude model (and, presumably, paramour) for years. Now sketches, paintings, and historical documents explore their relationshipand the racial implications of Sargent using McKellers Black body to create figures of white gods and goddesses.

Back in the pre-pandemic days, the New England Conservatory kicked off its Beethoven250 concerts, a yearlong initiative to commemorate the composers birth by playing every (yes, every) one of his solo piano works. The unique series, a worlds first, returns in virtual form on October 13, and culminates in a sweeping, 11-hour concert of all of Beethovens piano sonatas.
