Bonnie Bennett and Freya Mikaelson are two of the strongest witches in the Vampire Diaries & Originals universe, but how strong are they really?
Bonnie Bennett was the best friend of Elena Gilbert and was a powerful witch with a strong bloodline in The Vampire Diaries.Introduced in The Originals, Freya Mikaelson is the daughter of the Original witch Esther who was forcefully raised by her aunt Dahlia.

Both witches have shown that magic is the key to combat any antagonist, no matter how powerful. Due to their bloodlines, it is difficult to outline who was the strongest, however, both of them have displayed impressive amounts of pure energy and skill throughout both shows.
Bonnie Bennett comes from a strong line of witches. The Bennetts of Mystic Falls were known to have set many spells throughout The Vampire Diaries. As a result, with the help of her ancestors, Bonnie was given the power to save Mystic Falls in the series finale.
After Hellfire was released onto Mystic Falls, Bonnie was able to redirect the fire away from the town and was crowned the hero of the day. In doing so, Bonnie saves her hometown from death and destruction while ending Hell itself. This showed the true extent of Bonnies power as her bloodline and ancestry makes her the stronger witch.
Freya Mikaelson is the first child of the Original witch Esther. Having a strong connection to magic and immense power. Freya was also forcibly raised by her aunt Dahlia, something which although was unfortunate, strengthened her magic and led to her subsequent immortality.

Freyas immortality allowed her to stay alive for a thousand years. Having also spent most of her life in captivity by Dahlia, Freya was able to learn a lot about self control, which was useful for her in being able to deal with the Mikaelsons enemies.
In the season 2 episode The Last Dance, Bonnie proves that no one is stronger than her. After Alaric is possessed by Klaus, Bonnie channels all her magic to defeat him. She further defeats Klaus in season 2 episode 22. In the episode, she is able to ensure he suffers and is weak, despite Klaus becoming more powerful as a Hybrid.
Although Niklaus doesnt die at Bonnies hands, she proves that if it were all up to her, she is strong enough to kill Klaus, the Original hybrid, making her extremely powerful.
In The Originals season 2 episode Sanctuary, the audience finds Rebekah trapped in the Dowager Fauline Cottage; a prison for witches. While being trapped in the cottage, Rebekah becomes intrigued by an individual who is later revealed to be her long lost sister.

Later in the episode, Rebekah is threatened by the other witches inside the cottage and is saved by Freya. In this scene, Freya easily defeats the other witches making them suffer before death. Freya continues to help her sister by setting them both free; something that no other witch has been able to achieve. Freya proved to be the stronger witch at this moment, as her knowledge and skill showed that she was a uniquely powerful witch.
Bonnie and Damon grew to become best friends throughout the series. As a result, in season 8 episode 14, Bonnie did all she could to ensure that Damon was saved from Hell.
Arcadius, otherwise known as Cade, was introduced to The Vampire Diaries in season 8 and was the devil and creator of Hell. However, in the 14th episode of season 8, Bonnie was able to keep Cade stable, giving Stefan the chance to end his life. Killing the actual devil is pretty exceptional.
Since she was held captive by her aunt, Freya missed out a lot on her childhood. However, by being the eldest of the Mikaelson siblings, Finn and Freya were given the chance to grow up together in the early years of their childhood. Having a deep connection with Finn, Freya is seen in season 2 episode 14 of The Originals trying to resurrect Vincent Griffith in order to capture her brothers soul.

With the help of her magic and knowledge on how to use a Talisman necklace, Freya was once again able to spiritually connect with her brother and save him, proving once more that she is a powerful and resourceful magician.
Kai Parker was an antagonist in season 6 of The Vampire Diaries. Being a powerful witch from the Gemini Coven, Kai had the ability to absorb and control magic like no other. After being killed by Damon, Kai manages to leave his mark behind by linking Bonnie and Elenas life together. This link was made so that Elena would only awaken once Bonnie dies.
After years of trying to wake up her best friend, Bonnie is successful in season 8 episode 16. At this moment, Bonnie was stronger than Kai, proving no one is a match for her.
In season 2 episode 20, the audience is given a glimpse of how powerful and uncontrollable firstborn Mikaelson witches can be. In an attempt to show Klaus how Hope may turn out without her guidance, Dahlia shows Niklaus how Freya was able to control nature and living organisms around her when she experienced anger.

This scene was intense for the audience, as Freya was controlled by her magic rather than her controlling it. However, over time, Freya learned how to adapt to her power and mastered the craft, making her the strongest witch.
In season 4 episode 14, Jeremy Gilbert dies at the hands of Silas. Being in a relationship with Jeremy, it becomes hard for Bonnie to accept that he is dead. As a result, she finds a way to bring him back from the dead. Bonnie follows through with her plan in season 4 episode 22 The Walking Dead and brings Jeremy back to life.
At this moment, Bonnie showcased her strength as a witch with a move in which she, unfortunately, takes her own life. However, in season 5, the audience and characters realize that Bonnie lived on as a ghost and was the new anchor to the Other Side. Bonnie was eventually revived and continued to prove herself as the most powerful witch.
Lucien Castle was known to be a foe when it came to his relationship with the Mikaelsons. As a result, in season 3,Lucien works alongside the ancestral witches of New Orleans to become the first enhanced vampire, virtually stronger than any Mikaelson.
Being a threat, Freya saved her family by using the same ancestral magic that Lucien used and was connected to, drawing out Luciens power. Saving her family and also being given access to the ancestors, Freya proved to be a strong and valuable addition to The Originals.
