The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 1 Finale Review: The Deepest Cut/In This Life – The Series Regulars

The Walking Dead: World Beyondseason finale had so many shocking moments last week! From Silas exiling himself from the Endlings to Percy going missing to Hope finally telling Elton that shed killed his mother to Huck being in the CR. Were still reeling, and now entering the final leg of the journey, those remaining still have a lot to weather.

Lets review!

While reflecting back on the conversation with her mom, Huck (Annet Mahendru) forces an accident with the truck so the group follows the CRs plan to get the asset AKA Hope (Alexa Mansour). Even more, we get to see her entrance interview into the Campus Colony and finally see Will, Felixs (Nico Tortorella) love interest.

Though excited to see Will, were feeling some other type of way about Huck snaking her way into the community as a spy for the CR. Was any of this real for her?

Iriss (Aliyah Royale) intuition comes in clutch as she begins to suspect Huck, but Hope isnt on board with that. We noticed a small chasm growing between the sisters ever since Hope told Iris about shooting Eltons mom, but this cracks that wide open as Hope basically comes out saying that Huck understands her better than Iris does. As they drift apart, we hoped they would eventually come back together.

Yet, Huck gets her way when Hope is ready to dip out on both Iris and Felix. As it turns out, Hope is much cleverer than any of the Endlings give her credit for. She discovers who Huck is and has set out to keep them out of everything with the intention of taking care of Huck herself.

Getting a look into Felix and Wills life and relationship has us beyond ecstatic. The flashback grows increasingly sad as Will and the girls dad get ready for their journey to the CRM. Though we know just how much this affects the girls, we completely underestimate how much it hurts Felix. Hes so strong for everyone and keeps so much of his personal emotions to himself so it knocks us off our feet to see it.

However, Felix injuring his leg has us worried. We are in deep disagreement about leaving him behind and grumpier than the belief that Huck is all for it, her being a schemer and all. We are completely with Iris about not leaving him behind.

While on his own, Elton (Nicolas Cantu) faces his troubled emotions about his mother. Along the way, he finds Percy (Ted Sutherland) who isnt looking too good. With so much on his shoulders, literally and figuratively, why not add Percy? Elton takes it as fate that he found Percy and is determined to help him. However, hallucinating a conversation with him probably doesnt help. More so, a few walkers found them.

The interaction between Elton and unconscious Percy really brings us back to Daryls hallucinations of his brother Merle back in season 2 of The Walking Dead. Its a tragic exchange because Percy is telling Elton to leave him and live to see another day and is almost convincing. With all that Elton is carrying and then Percy whos already dying, hes overwhelmed. Still, we whoop pretty damn loud when Elton says no and faces the walkers with Silass giant wrench. More than a moment of truth, it is a moment of glorious discovery. Discovery of his own strength.

When he discovers one of their walkies on Percy and tries to make contact, he gets Huck and a scare from Percy when he awakens long enough to tell him that Huck had been the one to shoot him.

The second part of the finale begins with Hope and Iriss father and him thinking about his daughters. Meanwhile, Hope finally confronts Huck and Iris admits to Felix what he told Hope about her suspicions about Huck.

As Hope struggles, and rightfully so, with Hucks betrayal, Iris works on trying to convince Felix about how shady Huck is. They discover the room Huck kept them from going into was filled with CRM supplies. Together, the two get the truck back in working order.

We have to add that Felix teaching Iris to drive a stick shift is such a breath of fresh air during this tense episode.

Huck shares that she is the one that sent the SOS messages to the girls, not their dad. The way Huck explains her intentions with so much care, viewing Hope as a sister. She adds that Hopes gift to be able to pick up on things so fast from technology to killing walkers is extraordinary.

Felix and Iris finally catch up to Hope and Huck, while Huck tries to say Iris is crazy when she is caught. Still, Felix doesnt let up and is ready to protect the girls. He refuses to let Huck and the CR take Hope.

We hope that Huck wouldve come to the realization that what she is doing is wrong, but a nasty fight breaks out between her and Felix as a fire starts in the house. Unable to get a breath in, the peak comes when Hope once again holds a gun and we are reminded of when she was a kid and held it on Eltons mother. Now, she holds it to herself, ready to end her life if Huck kills Felix.

Elton and Percy finally catch up to Silas (Hal Cumpston) and we couldnt be happier about this small slice of joy. Silass name is cleared as Percy shares how Huck killed Tony and then aimed for him next. The next step? They need to get to Iris and Hope ASAP.

Percys promise to deal with Huck himself is well warranted. But before the three of them even get going a truck of CR soldiers arrive having seen the smoke from nearby. The three have to vacate quickly before they get spotted.

While the CR closed in on the guys, a montage of all of the encouraging and kind things said to and about Silas leave us breathless, knowing it meant he is departing and allowing himself to get caught so they could get away. It is an obvious moment but still punched us in the feels. With him turning himself in, can we hope hell reunite with Hope next season? We hope so! Shell need a friend.

It is revealed that Eltons theory about humankind coming to an end is correct. Dr. Belshaw, a woman that Hope and Iriss dad had been seeing speaks to him about Hopes incredible intelligence and the chance of her helping save humanity. What we are left wondering is, will the CR ever discover that Elton sits in the same boat as Hope? He is just as smart as her and has come to many of the conclusions the CR had without labs as they did. We cant help but hold on to what he says to Percy and how it really rounds out the finale.

What lies ahead is not going to be easy but were part of it now. Used to think we were the last of the species but since then so much has changed. Seen the impossible happen. Thats how I know were going to find the others. Because we can do the impossible. Were going to make our lives count. Not because were the last generation. Because were the beginning.

Whatever is going on definitely isnt as Huck explained. That is once again proven true when Huck delivers Hope to Elizabeth who tells her that shes going to have the other taken care of just like she had the Campus Colony done. This is the moment when Huck falters. Having done everything asked of her she didnt expect her friends to be hunted. Guess what? We did!

As Felix and Iris make their way, its revealed that the CR is wrong about Hope. At least, in the sense that they only needed her. In fact, they need Iris too. All hell will break loose when they discover that and we cant wait.

And of course, we cant forget Will on the run from the CR in the last part of the finale. The reunion between him and Felix at the very end is moving and absolutely relieving. Queue our major squeals, because reunions with loved ones in the TWD-verse isnt common. With so much heartache, this gives us something good.

Theres so much to anticipate for next season and we can hardly wait. Honestly, we feel a little shaky about this spin-off, and its slow start didnt help. However, as it picked up, we became quite attached to each of these characters for their various talents, quirks, and selflessness that you dont typically find at the end of the world. More so, the TWD universe has really grabbed at a unique point of view. These guys are growing up in the end of the world and that comes with many coming of age, awkward challenges. And sure, this show has left us a bit confused and muddled by the end but thats the beauty of a cliffhanger finale. Were left with curiosity that needs to be scratched like an itch. This show has definitely grabbed our attention with its many angles while also leaving us with so many questions about what the future will bring for our Endlings.
