What The Walking Dead Has Already Revealed About Negan’s Wife – Screen Rant

Lucille will soon be making her debut as Negan's wife on The Walking Dead, but what has already been revealed about her character in the show?

Lucille is set to make her debut in The Walking Dead during the batch of season 10 bonus episodes, but the series has already revealed quite a bit about the character. As the deceased wife of Negan, one of the show's biggest villains, her background has always been compelling. Even thoughJeffrey Dean Morgan starred as Negan since season 6, much of his backstory was left out of the focus. That will now change with the Negan prequel episode, feature Morgan's real-life wife, Hilarie Burton, in the role of Lucille.

Beginning in season 6, a mysterious group known as the Saviors emerged as major threats to Rick's group in Alexandria. They later encountered the tyrannical leader in the season 6 finale, which led to the brutal deaths of Abraham and Glenn. For the next two seasons, Negan served as the primary antagonist as the communities dealt with Negan's thirst for power. The two sides laterentered the "All Out War," leading to Negan being taken captive by Rick and the Alexandrians. The man remained as a prisoner even after Rick's exit, but he was eventually given the chance at redemption when he killed Alpha, the leader of the Whisperers.

Like his comic book counterpart, Negan was introduced as a foul-mouthed dictator donning a black leather jacket and a red scarf. More importantly, he wielded his trusty weapon of choice: a wooded baseball bat wrapped in barb wire. Negan referred to the weapon as "Lucille," and he even personified it, which made more sense when viewers learned that Lucille was the name of his wife. Before the outbreak, Negan and Lucille lived together in Virginia where he worked as a gym teacher. Over time, the tragedy surrounding Lucille, in addition to the effects it had on Negan, was revealed beginning in The Walking Dead season 8.

In season 8, Negan spoke to Father Gabriel while locked up in Alexandria. He shared that Lucille was his one true love, but he made the mistake of cheating on her. When she died after the outbreak, Lucille reanimated as a walker. He was unable to kill the zombified version of his wife, calling it his only weakness. Due to the tragic event, Negan made Lucille the bat, which he used to remind himself to power through the apocalypse. The following season, Negan interacted with Michonne, revealing that Lucille died from cancer after the outbreak. At one point he even begged Maggie to kill him so he could reunite with his wife.
