True Blood: Why 6 Years Is Way Too Soon For A Reboot – Screen Rant

Fans were surprised to learn that True Blood is being rebooted just six years after the original series ended. Here's why that's too soon.

HBO is rebooting its sultry vampire dramaTrue Blood, butthe decision is raising eyebrows as it comesjust six years after the original show ended. Here's a look at why bringing True Bloodback so soon is a mistake.

The horror series chronicles a world in which vampires exist side-by-side with humans, thanks to the invention of a synthetic blood product called "Tru Blood." With their presence known to humans, vampires begin to fight for their rights while opposing forces, such as anti-vampire organizations, rise up. All the while, a 173-year-old vampire named Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) rolls into the town of Bon Temps, Louisana where he meets and falls in love with psychic waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin).

True Blood was ultimately well-received by fans and critics alike. Over the course of its seven seasons, thehorror TV showearnedsomething of a cult following. Because of that, rebooting the show so soon is a mistake, as it will inevitably be lost in the shadow of its predecessor.

Reboots thrive on nostalgia. They're meant to capture audiences who loved the original show and are looking to create that same bit of magic. In order for that to work, there needs to be a decent amount of time between the original and new iteration of the show. The right time and place is key for a successful reboot, as has been proven by other reboots that have aired in the last decade.

Despite its recent cancellation, theOne Day at a Timereboot was deemed a critical success. One of the key elements of that success was that the new version of the show was brought back more than 40 years after the original series debuted. Enough time had passed since the original show aired, so the reboot could better find its footing on its own, separate from what came before. Another key example of a successful reboot is the American version ofthe British hit,The Office. The Greg Daniels-run sitcom brought the show to a new audience, making it completely fresh and exciting. This same formula has seen success through other shows that have seen huge success with American audiences, such as Showtime'sShameless, which also originated in the UK.
