Of all the tough choices that the Winchesters have to make in Supernatural, these are some of the dumbest moves they made.
Any show that lasts as long as Supernatural did is not going to feature protagonists who are right all the time. The Winchesters did ultimately manage to make things work in the grand scheme of things, but this road was paved with bad decisions whose consequences they suffered from.

Had the brothers gone against these choices, they would have been spared a world of hurt. These wrong decisions went all the way through the series, with a majority of them having such a long web of impacts that something that seemed smallto begin with ended up eventually became a world-ending problem.
For some reason, Dean decided not to share the details of his adventures in Purgatory, which was the basis of the rift between the brothers in Season 8. Sams inability to understand what happened to Dean meant the two couldnt connect as a team again, eventually causing a brief separation.
More crucially, it was because of this that Sam didnt have any liking for Benny, due to which Dean had to sever his ties with his friend. In the end, Benny turned out to be a good guy, but it was too late since he decided to sacrifice himself in Purgatory rather than return with Sam.
Not for nothing is this one of the most hated storylines on Supernatural. In addition, leaving Adam in the cage came back to bite the Winchesters. Had they decided on rescuing him, then Michael wouldnt have had a vessel to return to Earth in Season 15.
It was due to this that he decided on betraying the Winchesters to God, which almost led to Chuck destroying everything. Not saving Adam also resulted in him hating his brothers for it, which seemed to bother Dean when he found out.
It was a very dumb decision to try a spell the Winchesters had just learned one of the most powerful demons. They figured they could cure Abaddon of being a demon, executing their plan in a moronic fashion by leaving her unattended and causing her to escape.
Thus began the road to the civil war in Hell, as Abaddon resolved to overthrow Crowley. Dean would then take on the Mark of Cain as the only way to kill Abaddon, which led to Dean becoming a Prince of Hell himself and the eventual release of the Darkness. And all this just because the Winchesters didnt just catch any run-of-the-mill demon and try the spell on it.
Chuck presented one of the most deadly weapons ever created in the Equalizer, a gun that could kill anything but also end the life of the person that shot it. After Chuck took Jacks life, Sam tried to use the gun on Chuck, which did nothing but cause him to get mad.

Due to this, Chuck ended all ties with the Winchesters and resolved to make them pay. This then morphed into Chuck wanting to end all of existence. Had Sam decided against shooting him, all of the suffering in Season 15 could have been avoided. Sam could have held his anger and plotted Chucks downfall instead.
After Sams death in Season 2, Dean decided to sell his soul in order to bring his brother back. This didnt do him any favors in the long-run, as the deal was only for a year and Dean was dragged to Hell where he was tortured for thirty years.
What makes this the worst decision is that by agreeing to torture other souls himself for ten years, Dean broke the first seal to Lucifers cage. Ergo, his deal for Sam was the main reason why Lucifer came back and began the apocalypse.
After the Mark of Cain turned Dean into a Prince of Hell, curing him didnt do any good since he was still under the influence. Sam decided to go behind Deans back and create a spell to remove the Mark, with the side effect of releasing the Darkness.
Sam was fully aware that this would be far from good news, yet still went through with the plan and cured Dean. Due to this, the Darkness was released and several thousand people died because of it, all because Sam didnt decide against using the spell.
Due to Chuck trapping Amara for millions of years, she was far from the most intelligent villainsince she had no experience. It made her susceptible to manipulation, which Sam and Dean cashed in on by having the latter use his connection with Amara to lie to her that they wanted to help her by putting an end to Chuck.
In actuality, they planned on killing her with Chuck as both deaths were necessary to maintain the universes balance. This decision backfired marvelously, as Chuck then revealed the Winchesters plan to Amara who allowed her brother to absorb her and the powers she had. Chuck was at his most powerful because of the Winchesters plans of manipulation.
Its considered the move that cemented Deans turn into an absolute jerk, as he convinced Sam to lie to Jack that they were curing his soulless state when in actuality they planned on trapping him in the Malak box till the end of time.

This was a bad move because Jack realized this deception and broke through, which captured Chucks interest and led to him exposing his fun of watching the main characters misery. It was the manipulation of Jack that ultimately caused God to go on the path to destroy the Winchesters and the universe completely.
There have been many times where Dean didnt deserve Castiels friendship, and this one reaches the top of the list. With his back against the wall, Castiel planned on using Purgatory souls to power himself to beat Raphael.
Upon learning this, the Winchesters decided to outright accuse him of being a villain rather than hear out his side of the story. The brothers even cut themselves off from Castiel, which prompted him to absorb the souls and wreak havoc on Heaven as a result. Had they approached him as a friend, Castiel wouldnt have turned toward villainy.
The execution of Dean's death remains one of the most hated parts of the finale, as it seemed out of character for the Winchesters to decide to venture into a barn infested with vampires without doing their due diligence.
As it happened, they found out the vampires were inside but didn't conduct any kind of scoping to learn if there were more vampires than the amount they were aware of. It was the worst mistake of their lives, as the resulting fight led to Deans permanent demise and left Sam to live out his life without his brother.
