Walking Dead: Every Confirmed Settlement In All Shows – Screen Rant

Which communities are still standing (more or less) in the world ofThe Walking Dead? WhenThe Walking Deadbegins, survival is the only priority. Groups form and disband, and the living huddle together in the wild, taking whatever shelter they can find in the hope that rescue will come, or the outbreak will blow over after a nice cold pint. The Walking Dead's early seasons play out mostly on the road, withprotagonists running from place to place, but as Rick Grimes and his contemporaries adapt to their new, violent surroundings, proper communities begin to emerge.

Initially, these settlementswere rudimentary dwellings slightly preferable to the great outdoors, but still a far cry from pre-apocalyptic life and, as a result, they quickly fall. But as the timeline ofThe Walking Deadprogressed, the franchise's locales gradually became more homely, elaborate and stable. Increasingly,The Walking Dead is becoming less about groups of survivors fighting in the woods and more about rival communities going to war for resources, land and prominence.

Now a decade removed from the beginning of the outbreak, the landscape ofThe Walking Dead is sprouting with new settlements at a rapid rate acrossall three shows - locations that havestayed standing for years and are entirely self sufficient, with their own hospitals, legislation, and farming facilities. These are all the communities still active, one way or another, as ofThe Walking Dead season 10.

The main settlement ofThe Walking Dead and home to the franchise'sbiggest protagonists, Alexandria is located in Virginia and was built before the outbreak as a modern housing settlement. After adding some iron fencing, Alexandria became the perfect place to hunker down when the apocalypse began, with access to water, fertile land and solar power. Initially under the control of Deanna Monroe, the people of Alexandria were naive to the reality outside their walls, and Rick Grimes promptly took charge after Deanna's death. Following Rick's disappearance, Alexandria fell under the control of a democratic ruling council, and is now allied with a number of other local settlements. Alexandria bounced back from numerous hordes and invasions and, despite being abandoned due to a brush with the Whisperers, remains standing firm.

Unfortunately, "Standing firm" can't quite be said of Hilltop, Alexandria's closest ally. Also situated in Virginia, Hilltop was originally a tourist attraction based around a mansion, but the old-school facilities provided an excellent foundation for civilized lifeonce the zombie apocalypse hit, with a blacksmith's forge for making weapons and plenty of room for housing outside of the main residence. Meanwhile, the "hill" of Hilltop offered a key strategic advantage against the undead and would-be attackers. With its relative abundance of resources, Hilltop was a soft target until an allegiance with Alexandria prompted a change of leadership. Corrupt and cowardly, Hilltop was first led by Gregory until Maggie assumed control, but after Lauren Cohan's character departed, the top job became a poisoned chalice, with Jesus and Tara dying in rapid succession.Although Hilltop was burned down by the Whisperers, most of its people escaped, and will surely rebuild their home inThe Walking Dead season 11, following the original comic series.

Like Hilltop, The Kingdom has seen better days, and is currently inactive inThe Walking Dead. The Kingdom was some kind of school or college in the old world, with theater halls, blocks of buildings, and plenty of green space on which to grow food. The Kingdom was pioneered by the charismatic Ezekiel, whoachieved renown by keeping a fully-grown tiger by his side and referring to himself as a king. Survivors flocked to the Kingdom's, and when the good people of Alexandria came calling, the King's subjects joined their Hilltop allies in shaking the dominance of Negan. The Kingdom prospered until a harsh winter and a rift between the allied communities pushed the settlement to ruin, andall inhabitants moved to Hilltop. Whether The Kingdom will be physically rebuilt remains to be seen, but as Ezekiel himself learns, The Kingdom is its people, not its location.

As well as the main trio of Virginia communities, Rick's peoplecan count upon a fourth major ally in the all-female Oceanside. Easily the smallest of the joined settlements, Oceanside was previously a beach camping destination of sorts, but the safe-zone now offers fishing spots and weapon stashes instead. Like Alexandria, Oceanside was tactically abandoned during the Whisperer War, but remains in one piece, ready for its people to return inThe Walking Dead season 11. Oceansidewas initially resistant to outsiders, and took some convincing before joining with Alexandria. The death of original leader, Natania, greased the wheels, with command transferring to her granddaughter, Cyndie.

The Commonwealth and Alexandria have been in contact for some time thanks to the unquenchable thirst of Eugene. After building a radio system, Eugene was contacted by Stephanie, anda long feeling-out process resulted in a meeting between communitiesbeingarranged. Situated in the vicinity of Charleston, The Commonwealth is a much bigger settlement than any seen previously inThe Walking Dead, boasting superior numbers, resources, and a well-drilled army. Given the rough welcome Eugene and his friends are afforded, The Commonwealth don't seem immediately welcoming, but this is likely due to an abundance of caution rather than ill-intentions. In the comic books, The Commonwealth is run by a Governor and includes shops, restaurants, and event stadiums, but while the safe zone has returned a sense of normality to its people, italsobrought across the inequality and corruption.

One ofThe Walking Dead's biggest communities still remains unseen. Introduced inThe Walking Dead season 8, Georgie appeared to the people of Alexandria and Hilltop and offered friendship. The two sites have maintained relations ever since, but only Maggie has traveled between them, moving to Georgie's mystery community after falling out with Michonne and becoming disenchanted withthe Hilltop-Alexandria alliance. It's not known where Georgie is based, nor how many folks are under her command, and there remains a possibility that she leadsThe Commonwealth in The Walking Dead'sTV adaptation. Given Georgie's position as a mentor to Maggie, it's likely that her safe zone is considerably larger than Hilltop or Alexandria.

Many groups have come and gone inFear The Walking Dead, with ranches, hotels and baseball stadiums all falling to the undead before long. However,Fear The Walking Dead season 5 introduced Ginny and the Pioneers - easily the most organized and establishedcommunity ever seen in the spin-off.Ginny's dominion is spread across12 different locations dotted around Texas and Oklahoma, and houses approximately 1000 residents. Ginny herself is based in Lawton, but also operates at Paradise Ridge, a sugar factory, and a bowling alley. Unfortunately, Ginny's empire wasn't built via legitimate means; she coerces other communities toaccept her will, and wipes them out should they refuse. Despitetheir violent means and unjust societal structure, the Pioneers utilize a relatively civilized framework of laws and principles - so long as you're not planning to run away.

Rivaling Ginny in Texas is Morgan Joneswith his dried up dam. WhenFear The Walking Dead season 6 begins, Morgan is on death's doorfollowinga fatal gunshot wound. Thanks to a mysterious stranger, he recovers and teams up with Isaac, a manseparated from his pregnant wife. Morgan fends of an assassin and a crowd of zombies to reunite the couple before Isaac dies, and is left to care forhis widow and newborn child. Rather than just discovering new companions, however, Morgan finds Isaac's family in a dried up, hidden dam, perfect for building a new community from scratch. Over the course ofFear The Walking Dead season 6, Morgan adds morefaces to his growing gang, including a local group of office workers, and old friends such as Alicia and Dwight.Fear The Walking Deadhas yet to reveal Morgan's progress, but the dam could become another leading community inThe Walking Dead.

The Civic Republicis the biggest mystery in the entireWalking Dead franchise - a shadowy, clandestine, overarching organization working to restore civilization. Propped up by their military arm, the CRM, these big-shots travel across the United States in specially-branded helicopters, carrying soldiers even more professional and well-equipped than The Commonwealth's. The Civic Republic's location is a well-guarded secret, but the group own at least one research station in New York City, where they study immunization and work towards stopping the zombie apocalypse. Harboring over 200,000 residents, the Civic Republic's leadership includes Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth Kublek, whose apartment puts most real-worldhomes to shame with its modern conveniences and stylish decor. More than any other settlement inThe Walking Dead, the Civic Republic has rebuilt normal society, but not necessarily without deep-rooted and sinister flaws.

Joining the Civic Republic within the Alliance of the Three is an unnamed civilization in Omaha. Significantly smaller than the Civic Republic, but still with a population in the tens of thousands, little is currently known about the Omaha groupfollowing its introduction inWalking Dead: World Beyond. Omaha is confirmed to be bigger and more advanced than Nebraska's Campus Colony, which it was partnered with until the universitygot decimated by the CRM. Omaha shares a legal agreement with the Civic Republic as part of their alliance.

Thethirdcommunity in the Alliance of the Three sits on the opposite end of the country in Portland. Even less is known about the Portland settlement than Omaha, butWorld Beyondhas revealed that the Civic Republic drafted in a Portland scientist to aid their zombie research. With all three shows set in faraway locations, the Portland safe zone may never be seen inThe Walking Dead.
