If you don't like having the bejesus scared out of you, this is simply not the place for you. No, this post belongs to the freaks who love a jump scare. Those who live and breathe for the monster that lived under their beds growing upthe tried and true fans of horror. While dates are always shifting on films, 2021 boasts quite an impressive slate of upcoming horror films that range from reboots and adaptations to original ideas. And yeah, these are scary times. Who needs horror when there's all this horror around us? That's the joy of this genre though. While the rest of the world might be realistically horrifying, the horror movie genre is here to take your abject terror and place it in a world that can be turned off at the press of a button.

For this year's stock, we have follow ups to A Quiet Place, The Conjuring, and the Purge franchise, along with a reimagining of the Saw franchise, starring Chris Rock. Chris Rock, we say! Top that off with a touch of Jordan Peele and Nia DaCosta's Candyman and a spectacularly secretive James Wan thriller and you have all the makings of an incredible year for horror.

A Quiet Place: Part II (April 23)

Spoiler alert: John Krasinski might have been eaten, but Emily Blunt and her little family of three is making a comeback in A Quiet Place: Part II this year. Originally slated for last year, the sequel follows up on the events from the first movie, centering on their world that requires absolute silence, or else monsters will appear and devour you in just a few bites.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (June 4)

The Conjuring universe continues with this new sequel, but its not just ghosts and apparitions this time. Vera Framiga and Patrick Wilson return as the Warrens, a paranormal investigative couple who must explore a crime committed by a real, human man. So whats the twist? Oh, just look at the title and take a guess

Last Night in Soho (April 23)

We love a psychological horror film. This one, directed by Edgar Wright, follows a woman transported back to the 1960s. It's fantastical to start, but like most films with a psychological element, she discovers that this magical time jump isn't exactly as promising as it initially seemed.

Spiral: From the Book of Saw (May 21)

A Saw revival? With Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson? Help us all. The famed horror franchise is getting the revamp, with Rock doing double-duty as star and producer. If the trailer is any indication (See: Samuel L. Jackson saying, "You wanna play games motherfucker?"), then it should be a wild ride.

The Forever Purge (July 9)

No offense to this franchise, but we're getting a bit too meta when it comes to Purge movies and real life, no?

Don't Breathe 2 (August 13)

Everyone just wants to stay home and be left alone, but no. It's always more complicated. When a blind man who has been living in isolation with his daughter for years is tested by his daughter's kidnapping, he has to leave his home to get her back. Can't y'all just let a peaceful man live his life?

Candyman (August 27)

Who can make the sun riiiiise? The horrifying franchise called Candyman returns this year, with Nia DaCosta directing and Jordan Peele heading up the writers room with Win Rosenfeld. Nearly 30 years after the original, the story has moved to present day. Having only really heard the story of the chilling legacy, a couple opens up the story of Candyman a bit too wide, inviting him and his havoc back into the world.

Halloween Kills (October 15)

More! Judy! Greer! After Halloweens successful reboot, Jamie Lee Curtis and her daughter (played by Greer) are back for the next chapter of the Michael Meyers saga. Thought he burned up in that house fire in 2019? Think again. No one is going to let that poor Laurie Strode rest not until someone finally does the unimaginable and takes Michael out themselves.

Malignant (TBD)

To be frank, theres not much known about the world that James Wan has created for Malignant, but we do know that the upcoming horror film is an original idea (originality? What a concept!) and was written, produced, and directed by Wan. Though it doesnt have an official release date, we do know that its in the HBO Max/Warner Bros release schedule.

To Those Who Wish Me Dead (TBD)

Again, no official release date, but Tate Taylor is directing the adaptation of the novel, To Those Who Wish Me Dead, which follows a teenage murder witness who has two assassins chasing after him. Oh, and theres a forest fire going on. Its all pretty unhinged.
