Horror fans have possibly seen several of these 2010s movies, but most entries should be new to the casual fan. These sleeper horrors must be watched.

The horror genre hasn't been exempt from the scarcity of movie releases that have resulted from public health concerns. Consequently, horror fans have fewer new options to choose from, but on the bright side, there are many scary flicks released in the last ten years that are being slept on. What these films lack in popularity does not come at the cost of shock-value and quality.

'Horror-heads' have possibly seen several of these movies, but most entries should be new to the casual fan. Some are foreign and/or independent films, but they're all quite extreme, terrifying, and shouldn't be viewed by those who use nightlights.

Unsaneis a 2018 psychological horror set in Highland Creek Behavioral Center, where a young woman finds herself trapped after signing up for a 24-hour stay that is extended indefinitely. The misconstrued patient's predicament gets even worse when she realizes her stalker who is the reason she consulted a therapist to begin with is employed by the same facility she's being held in.

Soderbergh's directorial follow-up toLogan Luckyis an awesome, claustrophobic nightmare despite not receiving the same level of recognition as his other movies, like Contagion. A viewer cannot help but wince while Foy's character is falsely labeled insane and stripped of all credibility.

Director Brandon Cronenberg's second full-length film comes eight years after his debut. The resulting effort is an astounding, petrifying film, with its series of lengthy psychedelic-nightmare sequences, raw emotion and relentlessly brutal violence.

The Possessorscript is also top-tier and amounts to a fascinating premise that ties together quite masterfully with a haunting finale. Cronenberg brings a film that tests the boundaries of acting in the genre by exploring the person-within-a-person convention further than his predecessors, using artful, experimental cinematography to create a finely layered experience for any horror fan.

Making up the first foreign film here, Luzis a German horror/thriller released to relative acclaim by film-festival-goers. The film's '70s look mixed with its modern special effects and sound editing makes the film a unique and pleasing watch that contrasts with the general look and vibe of what's currently popular in the genre.

The film is centered around a possessed woman whose 'gift' causes chaos for bystanders who happen to cross her path. The film is brief, clocking in at 1h 13m, but its sharp, haunting visuals and unique feel should stick with a viewer for a long time.

Bone Tomahawkis the unlikely hybrid between a western and horror starring Kurt Russell and horror-film-frequenter Patrick Wilson. Despite critical acclaim and decent public visibility of its independent release, the film didn't do very well at the box-office.

Nevertheless, the numbers fail to reflect the utmost quality of this fear-rousing survivor picture that faces cowboys against merciless cannibals. The spine-chilling western is ruthlessly violent and makes for an admirable debut by a budding director in S. Craig Zahler.

This futuristic horror/mystery may have slipped past Netflix users' detection when it was released back in 2018. The low-budget film is centered around a highly successful 'camgirl' who is suddenly locked out of her account. After a brief sequence of investigation, Lola finds that she's been replaced by an identical version of herself who's taken all of her clients without them noticing a difference.

An interesting dynamic to the film is that it's written by Isa Mazzei, a former camgirl who used her own experience to craft characters and enhance finer details. Cammay not be the bestoffering here, but the inventive techno-thriller could be worth trying.

The Invitationis pulled off with supreme cinematography, writing and acting. The dinner party thriller/horror is the best of its kind, telling the story of an eerie cult and a mass-plan for revolution.

Reluctantly, Will brings his new lover Kira to a dinner party put together by his ex-wife and her new husband. The pain of Will returning to his old home disallows him from interacting normally with old friends. After one of the guests tells an alarming confession regarding his late wife, things begin to spiral out of control.

AlthoughComplianceis not listed as a horror, the 2012 thriller/drama's frightening display of coercion which becomes creepier knowing it's based on a true story by the strange incoming caller of a fast-food restaurant is a dose of realism and unease.

The film doesn't offer the jump scares and gore that attract most horror fans, but its use of suspense is similar to the tensest of horrors. Director Craig Zobel's newest film, The Hunt,is another high-quality film, released in 2020.

The Ones Belowis a British thriller/horror about two neighboring couples who befriend each other. Kate gives birth to her first child, but she and her husband grow disturbed by the odd, erratic behavior of the downstairs neighbors. They begin to fear for their family's safety.

Its screenplay may not be all that awe-inspiring or unique, but top-level acting performances bring new life to a 'typical' premise. Ones Belowis Hannawriter David Farr's directorial debut, but unfortunately, he hasn't directed a feature film since.

Wrestler CM Punk stars inGirl on the Third Floor, the directorial debut of longtime horror producer Travis Stevens whose other most notable project is Buster's Mal Heart, starring Rami Malek. The 2019 horror is an all-out bloodfest, which seeks to have more fun than your average horror flick.

Stevens' creation is more underrated than 'slept-on.' However, the whoosh of harsh reviews posted online after its release may have dissuaded too many viewers. Most critiques stem from CM Punk's acting and the film's inauthentic premise, but it may be worth a try for horror-fans struggling for something to watch.

Based on a serial killer who terrorized Wichita, Kansas, for close to two decades, The Clovehitch Killeris a terrifying film centered around a son's discovery of his father being a sick murderer. The push-and-pull between Dylan McDermott as the fraudulent father and Charlie Plummer as the conflicted son is dramatic irony at its best.

Bone-chilling, brutal, and at times, hard-to-watch,The Clovehitch Killerisn't one to miss, especially for American Horror Story fans.
