Walking Dead boss reveals the actor who REALLY didn't wanna die

Being a member of the Walking Dead cast has to be a pretty anxiety-inducing gig, especially if you like your job. On a show like that, you never know when you're about to be Walker meat, and according to the series boss, one cast member was trying to talk his way out of death right up until the end. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Readers of Robert Kirkman's comic series saw the death of Shane Walsh coming for quite some time, well before the penultimate episode of season two, when he took a knife from Rick Grimes and went all shambly until young Carl Grimes put him down for good with a bullet. Even if you haven't read the comics, you might have been pretty glad to see Shane go. But according to showrunner Glen Mazzara, Jon Bernthal, who played Shane on the series for two years, wasn't so glad to see his time among the Dead end.

Things worked out all right for Bernthal, though. It wasn't too long after he exited the show that he landed the lead in L. A. Noir, a new TV pilot from Walking Dead's former executive producer Frank Darabont. These days, he's even comfortable enough that he's rewriting his own death scene. As for the rest of the characters, they're now free of Shane's erratic behavior, but they've definitely got plenty of new threats on the horizon.
