HS Helsinki A new theory of a strange war image: In the winter of 1940, the actor Christopher Lee does not stand in the middle of Helsinki, but a…

HS Helsinki told reporters last week about the Winter War picture, where a British actor legend seems to stand alongside other volunteers in the winter in the center of Helsinki Christopher Lee.

Is this Christopher Lee?

Picture: SA-up

According to his account, Lee arrived in Finland as part of a group of volunteers. However, the adventurous youngsters were quickly sent home after the British skiing skills proved non-existent.

The picture riddle inspired many HS readers to dig into their memory and archives. One Lee met that the character in the picture really resembled a well-known actor down to his posture.

Out there was also a new explanation that there were British volunteer rescue workers in the picture, not the youth crowd who left in general to help. This is indicated, for example, by the jackets and hat model of the men in the picture.

If there really is a group of firefighters in the picture, then the tall man in the picture cant be Lee.

One of the people in the picture who identified them as volunteers in the fire brigade is the fire chief of the Helsinki Rescue Department Battle of Hakala, who also shared his attention on Twitter.

voluntary brought with them equipment donated to Helsinki by The Finland Fund, such as a fire truck. Helsinki, in turn, promised to be responsible for the volunteers travel and maintenance.

These Helpers also came from very different backgrounds, but all were equally ready to help and guide the Finnish rescue service. Help was needed, for example, to use equipment brought in by volunteers.

Volunteer rescuers remained in Helsinki even after the war ended. However, the co-operation between the British and the Finns in the rescue operations did not end here, but communication remained close for decades during the Winter War after the volunteers had already left for home.
