Husband found guilty of killing wife – Chino Champion

A 44-year-old Fontana man was found guilty Feb. 17 of murdering his estranged wife and dumping her body in Chino nearly four years ago.

One day of jury deliberations was needed to convict Victor Lopez first-degree murder in the death of 40-year-old Lorna Lopez.

She was strangled by a cord and found dead March 12, 2013, in the 17300 block of Cucamonga Avenue in Chino, San Bernardino County prosecutors said.

Mrs. Lopez had told her husband she wanted a divorce about a week earlier.

Mr. Lopez could receive 26 years to life in state prison.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 7 in a Rancho Cucamonga Superior courtroom.

Fontana police said Mr. and Mrs. Lopez were reported missing earlier that day by the couples four children, who range in age from 8 to 18.

Mr. Lopez claimed to be unaware that his wife was missing, said district attorney spokesman Christopher Lee.

Fontana police questioned Mr. Lopez, confronting him with bloody clothes that had been found.

Victor Lopez eventually admitted that there had been an argument between him and Lorna Lopez. He also told investigators where his wifes body could be found, Mr. Lee said.
