THOMASVILLE A Thomasville man has been charged with four counts of arson in connection to a series of fires dating back to August.

According to a Davidson County Sheriff's Office news release, Christopher Lee Lanning, 35, of 1922 Light Road, was arrested and charged Friday on four counts of arson, two counts of breaking and entering, two counts of larceny, larceny of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was placed in the Davidson County jail with bail set at $510,000.

Authorities stated in the release that the first incident they say Lanning was involved in was a vacant-house fire at 1986 Light Road on Aug. 17.

On Aug. 29, sheriff's deputies responded to a grass fire at Lanning's residence. The fire had been distinguished by the time deputies arrived.

On Dec. 11, deputies and firefighters responded again to 1986 Light Road where they found the house on fire. On Dec. 12, authorities returned to that address and found an out-building on fire behind the residence.

On Jan. 17, deputies responded to a break-in and larceny from an out-building at 1997 Light Road. Tools and other items valued at $2,500 were taken. On Jan. 26, authorities returned to this address for a house fire. The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The county fire marshall determined the fire had been set intentionally, according to the release.

On Tuesday, N.C. Probation and Parole officers conducted an inspection at Lanning's residence. Stolen property was found during this search, according to the release. The officers had assistance from the sheriff's office who recovered stolen property valued at $1,700.
