After first exploring the world of drama at Golden Square high school in her teen years, Adele Querol will take to the Ulumbarra stage next Tuesday.

The Bendigo actress who trained at Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and also studiedwith New Yorks Atlantic Theatre Company will play vampire victim Lucy in Shake & Stirs production of Dracula.

Not too many people know the original story of Dracula, Bram Stokers first introduction of him, she said.

Shake and Stir wanted to bring that to Australia. It is a fairly honest re-telling of that tale.

Nick Skubij takes on the role of the villainous Darcula in a production that includes impressives sets, lighting and special effects.

With the technology we have to build such huge lavish sets andlighting and special effects with blood, smoke and haze, we are capable of telling what is seen as old-timey story in incredibly dynamic fashion, Querol said.

This is the first time I have come back to Bendigo to perform. I cant waitto unleash (this play) onBendigo.

It is afun one to tour and has the right amounts of everything blood, shock, lust, horror.

The character of vampire victim Lucy is a step away from what Querol is usually cast as.

Lucy is great and thereason I love playing her is that I amtypically cast as the good girl, Querol said.

She gives me an opportunity to tap into the bad-girl vibe. Lucy isnt bad, she is more kind of pushing boundaries. She is an adventuress wanting experiences and to get into life. Its a lot of fun to tap into.

Querol said she was drawn to drama in high school as a shy teenager.

(Golden Square High School) had such a strong drama department. The teachers were very informative and gave me my first performing roles as a shy, well behaved student, she said.

Pushing me into limelight taught me how to be confident. Themore confident I got with high school musicals, more confident I was for other things.

Acting is a real slog. Youdont go into acting for any job or financial stability. You stick with it and cross your fingers and toes.

But it is stillwhat I love most in the world to do and Im lucky enough to be working regularly.
