7 underrated horror movies on Netflix, Sony LIV, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video of 2020 to watch these weekend – GQ India

With the next batch of horror movies expected to be largely dependent on pandemic and quarantine scripts, it is just about the ideal time to enjoy the existing horror movie drivers cannibals, nuns, dolls and whatnot. While the joke about 2020 being a horror movie in itself has run far enough, these horror movies on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video went unnoticed, not because they werent great but probably because we spent most of our time trying to lift our spirits through feel-good movies. But, in case youre in the mood for horror and need new titlesd to take away your sleep, dive in.

Charting the twisted life of a refugee couple who, out of nowhere, finds themself in a huge house where they must stay until the court decides the verdict on their case. While the opening might lack in terms of intensity, it sure picks up as the movie progresses. Evil lurks on every surface of the home and the couple must dodge various close encounters with them.

Yes, Hindi horror offerings can be slightly disappointing, but this Paresh Rawal production pretty much hits the nail on the head. It follows the lives of two teenage girls who are kidnapped and tortured by a family. The psychological thriller, Welcome Homewill keep you at the edge of your seat and offer a dose of gore as well.

Weve all seen this kind of horror movie. A child is attacked by a malevolent curse and then slowly succumbs to it. But, in this case, the malevolent curse is fought back by her mother, who wont let the evil rest in her babys body. Starring Mia Maestro and Riccardo Scamarcio in lead roles, the original Spanish language is available in English too, but definitely scarier in Spanish.

A horror-thriller, the movie in the opening sequences and even a little further identifies mainly as a thriller. A group of underwater researchers is forced to scramble to safety as their hold is withered by an earthquake. While the depths of the ocean are a scary affair in themselves, an earthquake isnt the only thing they must be worried about.

Im Thinking of Ending Things is slightly slow at the beginning which is why most people probably skipped it but it picks up enough pace to make up for the lag. As it enters the midway point it keeps on getting weirder and weirder. While this wont haunt you, it will surely leave a few scars for you to ponder upon late at night.

Remember Hollow Man? Well, this has a similar premise but with a big addition of horror to the story. A crazy scientist discovers the ability to become invisible and plans to exploit his ex-girlfriends life. After staging his own death (via suicide), he stalks and terrorises his girlfriend. When the cops do not trust her story, she decides to face him herself and fight back.

Released in the first half of 2020, like most movies, Horse Girl took a hit due to the onset of the pandemic. A young girl, in a very obscure setting, has a fondness for arts and crafts, horses and crime shows. Her hobbies dont work out well when she is possessed with a spirit and her lucid dreams slowly start transforming into a gruesome reality.
