Collingwood film company on set with eighth horror movie – Simcoe.com

A Collingwood film company is back on set with its latest horror flick.

Foresight Features is the brainchild of Collingwood natives John Geddes, Jesse Cook and Matt Wiele and has produced seven films since 2010.

The company specializes in horror films, including Monster Brawl, Septic Man, Exit Humanity and The Hexecutioners.

The company started filming in Collingwood on Monday and Tuesday, with the working title of the film being Creep Nation.

Geddes is directing the film, with Cook and Wiele handling producer duties.

Cook said the movie is a slight departure for the company, describing the film as a horror thriller.

The film is about a young woman who has come home from being overseas to visit with her brother, he said. She rents a short-term rental and ends up going missing and her brother goes on search for her to find out what happens to here and he finds out a deadly web of people.

Scenes were shot at Bent Taco and the Simcoe Street Theatre.

Cook, Wiele and Geddes are longtime friends who formed Foresight in 2009. In 2008, Cook and Geddes wrote and directed Scarce.

They raised about $400,000 through local investors, sold the film to distributors at the Cannes Film Festival and had the film distributed by Anchor Bay Entertainment, a company known for distributing horror films. The film was shown on Super Channel, a national television network.

They have since made seven films under the Foresight banner, securing local investors. Several of the films were shot in Collingwood with others being filmed in Owen Sound.

In the past decade, the way films are distributed has changed. Cook said some of the movies are still available on DVD, but digital streaming services such as Netflix, the PlayStation Network and Amazon are the wave of the future. He said many of their titles are streamed on Netflix in the United States.

We sort of evolved with the industry, where the industry has changed from brick and mortar stores selling your movie to just digital, he said. The market has changed but were still getting our stuff out there.
