B.J. McDonnell, a camera operator for movies such as the upcoming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, is directing the movie, stepping into the shoes previously worn by Adam Green, who created the franchise and wrote and directed the first two movies. Green wrote the script for Hatchet 3 and is producing.

The Hatchet movies follow a slasher villain named Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder) who haunts the bayou swamps of Louisiana and a young woman (horror mainstay Danielle Harris) who is determined to end his cursed ways.

Galligan will play a hard-nosed head of police while Snider will play a gun-loving deputy.
