Sony’s making a horror movie about a killer app (and it’s not called Killer App) – Blastr

Sony is ramping up development on a new horror film aimed at the cellphone crowd, which should make for a literal killer app.

Titled /reddoor (yes, the "/" is part of the title), the film is about a young journalist who realizes the new mobile game he's reviewing can literally kill the player once they enter the game world. It's said to be in the same vein as Ready Player One and The Ring as the journalist tries to stop the game before it's game over for everyone.

The real surprise here is that they're going with the awkward title of /reddoor instead of the obvious, on-the-nose and totally right there name of Killer App.

The spec pitch for the project was written by Teddy Tenenbaum and Minsun Park. If they can pull it off, it stands to reason this could make for a unique little horror film that is distinctly an artifact of its era. However, these types of movie are notoriously hard to get right (anyone else remember the truly awful Stay Alive from back in 2006?). So yeah, cautious optimism seems to be the right move with this.

What do you think? Would you watch a horror movie about a killer app (hee hee HEE)?
