Theres more to movies than meets the eye.Paradehas partnered withCinemaSinsto help you see some of the elements you might have missed when it comes to movies and the people who make them. Every month, the guys behind Cinema Sins, Jeremy, Chris and Barrett, will be giving you an unfiltered look at the film industry.

Nicole Kidman has acted in nearly 100 projects across her hemisphere-spanning career in film and now television, so it took quite a while for the gang at CinemaSins to pick their favorite roles; there are so many great ones! But somehow, they managed to whittle it down to just their Top Ten in honor of this talented actresss birthday on June 20.

This is a film where Kidman delivered a haunting performance that overcame a movie that didnt necessarily crackle, in our opinion. It was an interesting concept and certainly worth watching, but without Nicole Kidman, Fur probably wouldnt be that notable of a film. However, her performance was compelling enough to haveFur crack our Top Ten.

Kidman provides a supporting role in this movie, but really brings it. Its an emotional performance where she plays the adopted mother of a young man from Burhanpur who sets out to find his lost family. The film is incredible, and Kidmans performance is additive to an already amazing cast.

Of all our favorite Kidman films, this is probably the one that shows the widest range of emotions out of all. (And one of her first big starring roles after her split from Tom Cruise.) Shes funny! Shes dramatic! She does top-notch TB coughing, plus you get to see her sing! Its big, weird, Baz Luhrmann fun.

This 1989 film tends to get buried when we talk about Kidman, but shes only 22-years-old and an absolute bad-ass, and we hope more people find it. The story is very simpleshe and Sam Neill are on a boat, and after weeks at sea, they encounter Billy Zane in a dinghy, claiming hes the only survivor of a food poisoning catastrophe on another nearby ship. Is he telling the truth? Theres a lot of tension and intensity in this film, and she more than holds her own for such a young actor.

Now, we know. Youre not used to seeing Kidman on the smart screen. But she certainly holds her own in a series. In the first season of this series, Kidman delivers one of her best performances, earning her a Golden Globe and an Emmy. Her scenes with Alexander Skarsgrd, who plays her husband, are chilling, and the therapy sessionsthe ones where shes alone and with her husbandare some of the most chilling moments in the entire series. If you love Kidman and havent seen this show, we dont even know what youre doing. You have to see it.

Similar to her performance inEyes Wide Shut,Kidmans recent her role in Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favourite, The Lobster) The Killing of a Sacred Deer was also a slow-burn. The role starts out very understated, but as the film progresses it becomes the intense and emotional performance that shes now known for. Not to mention, she also plays well with the rest of the cast, including Colin Farrell. Kidman definitely still has her fastball when it comes to this type of character.

This movie has everybody! Julianne Moore, Meryl Streep, Allison Janney, Claire Danes, John C. Reilley, Jeff Daniels, Ed Harris.Kidman, as Virginia Woolf, was only in about a third of it. But it won her Oscar, and her deeply psychological portrayal of the author is heartbreaking to watch.

The Others is a great movie, but if Kidmans performance wasnt as perfect as it was, the movie might not have worked, in spite of the whammy it punches at the endand what a whammy! Kidman plays a stern, wealthy, upper-class mother alone with her children and some servants in a creepy old house, and boy, she goes through some dramatics. This is a very scary movie, and Kidman can let out a blood-curdling scream like the best of em.

When you think about Eyes Wide Shut theres a lot to considerthe spectacle, theres Cruise, theres Stanley Kubrick. But Kidman? Talk about an assured performance! As a housewife who quit her work world, she shows ennui, humor and some mischievousness, particularly at the beginning. And she shows a lot of painwe dont know how much Kubrick had to do with getting that out of her, but she absolutely matches up with the intensity of the film as a whole. Her showpiece scene discussing the affair she could have had is really very, very powerful. She gets real in that scene in a way we hadnt seen from her before.

Everything sort of points to To Die For being her best performance/movie combo. This is the one that signaled her arrival. In it, she plays a reporter who will do anything to get famous. She works at a small-town nobody watches this newsstation, and she expects to be Barbara Walters in a snap. Matt Dillon plays her husband, who was another big name at the time, but the best parts of the movie are when she manipulates teens Casey Affleck and Joaquin Phoenix (both then relative unknowns) to help kill her husband. Its a complete showpiece for Kidman, and she plays her lurid character with a startling combination of lightness and darkness.
