Chinese Zodiac: 5 Horror Movies Rats Will Love (& 5 They Will Hate) – Screen Rant

The Chinese zodiac sign of the rat is clever and witty, so which horror movies will they love, and which will they hate?

The Chinese signs of the zodiac are just as varied and unique as the signs in the Western zodiac. However, instead of changing every month, the Chinese zodiac changes every year for 12 years. And the first sign of the Chinese zodiac, as well as one of the most complex and interesting signs in Chinese astrology, is the rat.

Those born in the year of the rat are very kind, friendly, smart, and have a real knack for figuring out anything and everything before anyone else does. So with those personality traits in mind, which horror movies will a rat love, and which will they hate?

Those born under the Chinese zodiac sign of the rat are incredibly clever and good at problem solving, so they will be innately attracted to horror films with protagonists that display a similar kind of resourcefulness.

The Descent is a genuinely scary horror film, but what makes it so interesting is seeing this squad of spelunkers figure out how to evade the terrifying monsters that are coming after them in the caves.

And on the flip side of that, rats will have a tough time enjoying any film where a character seems to be genuinely trapped with no hopes or ideas for escape.

Misery is a fantastic adaptation of a Stephen King novel, but watching the injured author Paul suffer helplessly at the hands of Annie Wilkes will be difficult for the rat. They want to see characters thinking and troubleshooting at all times.

Ready Or Not is a recent horror comedy that is genuinely scary, funny, and surprising, which are all things that the rat thoroughly enjoys.

The heroine of the film has to constantly think on her feet, and that's exactly what she does, so the sneaky and intelligent rat will have a good time watching her outwit her way through the dangerous game of hide and seek that she's playing against her nightmarish in-laws.

The rat is the first sign of the Chinese zodiac, and they became the first sign because legend has it that the rat hitched a ride on the back of the ox and then jumped off just in time to win the race. Ergo, they're not the types of people who just react to what's happening around them, they always want to think ahead and problem solve.

So then, the zombie apocalypse movie 28 Days Later, which is mostly just running and fleeing, probably isn't for them.

John Carpenter's The Thing is a horror classic, and for very good reason. This tale about a research crew in Antarctica that becomes the prey of an alien that can shapeshift into any living thing is truly thrilling and terrifying, and it has everything that the rat will love.

They'll spend the entire film on the edge of their seats, trying to figure out what's going to happen next, and the movie will definitely leave them feeling surprised.

Rat zodiacs are the kind of people who love to push boundaries and who love to outsmart people. So a movie like The Fly is actually going to terrify them, because the extremely intelligent character basically destroys himself through his desire to experiment.

Seth Brundle's transformation into a truly gruesome and horrific creature, a transformation that is entirely his own fault, will freak the rat out too much.

As a sign that loves to think, analyze, interpret, and theorize, a movie like It Comes At Night is really perfect for the rat.

In a world ravaged by some sort of fatal disease, two families survive together and seem to achieve a happy and peaceful life together until they both begin to suspect that someone in each family is sick. The illness is scary, but most of the horror here is of the mental and psychological variety.

If there is one thing in the world that the rat cannot abide, it's a feeling of helplessness and being stuck in a situation that is being entirely controlled by outsiders.

Rosemary's Baby is a terrifying horror movie, but the fragility and ignorance of the titular character will drive the rat insane. It's not an easy horror scenario for them to relate to, and they don't have a lot of respect for characters who don't try to handle their own business.

The rat is a zodiac sign that usually comes in first place by being sneaky, so although they love heroes just like anyone does, they also have a lot of appreciation for a clever villain. And of course, there is no cleverer villain in cinema than Hannibal Lecter.

Known for their ingenuity, the rat zodiac signs can relate to Hannibal and to Clarice, and they love seeing these characters outwit their opponents no matter their moral alignments.

As a sign that takes pride in being able to outwit and outmatch every opponent, as well as come up with extremely unique ideas to get themselves a win, something like Hereditary is hard for the rat to deal with.

Yes, it's a fantastic movie in it's own right, but watching this entire family collapse in on itself due to circumstances that they don't understand or even really know about is intolerable for the rat.
