Horror fans will certainly be no strangers to sequels.

However, theyll be familiar with waiting and pining for a sequel year after year too, as has been the case with numerous franchises; and potential ones, of course.

Sometimes Netflix helps give an older title new popularity and this has recently been the case for Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, directed by Andr vredal and produced by Guillermo del Toro.

It was released in the summer of 2019 but thanks to its addition on the platform, audiences have become curious regarding a potential sequel as of late.

So, lets ask if Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 has been confirmed

A sequel to Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark was announced in late 2020, although there havent been many updates since.

Back in November 2020, Bloody Disgusting noted that Paramount and Entertainment One planned to collaborate on the second installment of Scary Stories, which may not come as a surprise to some.

The movie is actually based on Alvin Schwartzs childrens book series of the same name and there are plenty of creepy tales left to tell in future movies. With material there to adapt, it was perhaps a no-brainer to give a sequel the go-ahead.

Andr is returning to the directors chair while Dan and Kevin Hageman are back to reprise screenwriting duties. Its been reported that the aforementioned Pans Labyrinth director Guillermo will have a story by credit.

Despite no release date being announced and little news since, perhaps well see the movie reach screens later this year.

Its a good job that the creatives have announced theyre at work on it because more and more audiences continue to discover the film.

Inevitably, some are ready to embrace a sequel, voicing their thoughts on Twitter:

Over a year ago now, Andr gave fans of the first film some insight into where they were at with the forthcoming project during a chat with Coming Soon:

We have a great new story and some fun, scary stories implemented in a good way. Im very excited about the sequel. I shouldnt [say] and I cant really, you never know what you can and can not say about these things, its hard to talk about at this stage.

He added: Im part of the process of developing, not the writing because its Dan and Kevin, who wrote the first one, but Im definitely part of the development process on this one.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is now streaming on Netflix.
