One of the major outlets that was massively disrupted by the arrival of Covid was cinemas, and one of the very first movies to be hit by that arrival was A Quiet Place Part II.

Due for release in March 2020, it did eventually arrive on the big screen 14 months later in May 2021, where it set some pandemic-related records, including the biggest opening weekend for a movie (at the time) since the pandemic began, as well as becoming the first movie to make over $100 million at the box office since the pandemic began.

It will now become known as the movie that proved audiences were still incredibly hungry for great new movies, and it is now available to watch at home with your NOW Cinema Membership.

Bringing back writer/director/star John Krasinski, as well as his co-stars Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe, pairing them with new cast additions Cillian Murphy (who we chatted to about the movie below) and Djimon Hounsou, it went against the long-standing tradition of bad horror sequels by being - arguably - even better than the original.

The sequel initially shows us the world on the day of the alien invasion, taking place before the events of the first A Quiet Place, before jumping forward in time, as the survivors of that first movie head out into the destroyed world to find fellow survivors.

Krasinski manages to create some incredibly tense set-pieces while also expanding the mythos of this post-apocalyptic landscape, with the addition of Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou's characters bringing new dynamics to the horror on display.

The movie scored a fantastic 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, and we even ranked it among JOE's 10 best movies of 2021.

A Quiet Place Part II is available to watch at home with your NOW Cinema Membership from today (Friday, 7 January).
