‘Penguin’ Teaser: A Tense Crime-Thriller That Will Make Charlie Chaplin Scary – Mashable India

Horror movies used to have some great iconography. Don't believe me? Let's do a test. Can you tell me the plot of any of the Scream movies? No? But you do remember the ghastly mask. Can you tell me the plot of any of the Friday the 13th movies? No? But you do remember the ice-hockey mask. Can you tell me the plot of any of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies? No? But you do remember Freddy's knife-hands. Now, while that level of costume design was missing for a few years, with movies like Us, Holidays, and even the Purge movies, the trend is making a return. And Eashvar Karthic's Penguin is further proof of that.

The Karthik Subbaraj produced movie is one of the seven films that Amazon Prime Video is releasing online due to the unavailability of theatrical releases. And its first teaser offers enough material to raise one's intrigue. The protagonist is a mother, played by Keerthy Suresh, who is looking for something. My best guess is that it is her kid. And the antagonist here is a killer, of course, who is wearing a f*cking Charlie Chaplin mask. Have you seen Charlie Chaplin? Have you seen any of his movies? He was one of the funniest people to have walked on the face of this planet! Now we are going to get nightmares of him cutting up stuff and smearing his visage with blood. Thanks Eashvar!

Penguin was shot simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu. In addition to that, it will be available in Malayalam as well. I will probably end up watching it in all three languages because I am a sucker for crime-thrillers, especially when the emotional quotient is pretty high. The full trailer for the movie will release on June 11 and the movie will land on Amazon Prime Video on June 19. So, mark you calendars, kids!
