Every Star Trek fan remembers where they were when they heard that a brand new prequel series was coming to TV. Or, at least, you remember putting your hands together and praying to Nimoy that Star Trek: Discovery would be amazing.

With a cast including The Walking Dead's Sonequa Martin-Green (aka Sasha) and Harry Potter's Jason Isaacs (aka Lucius Malfoy), as well as Hannibal's Bryan Fuller jumping on board as co-creator, it looked like all of our Trekker prayers were answered.

And now you can officially set your phasers to 'stunned', because we have our very first look at the brand new series.

The image shows Michelle Yeoh and Sonequa Martin-Green as Captain Philippa Georgiou and First Officer Michael Burnham, all wrapped up and beamed down onto an as-yet-unidentified planet.

One for the fans: Burnham has a rather retro-looking flip communicator attached to her belt and a nifty tricorder on her hip (a la Spock).

According to EW, whilst the series is primarily shooting in Toronto, scenes such as the one above were shot in Jordan (which explains the lack of snow and very present desert feel).

Whilst this may be the first time we have seen cast members in costume, the whole gang got together a few weeks ago for a lovely bonding session.

Star Trek: Discovery is set to beam onto our screens in late summer or early autumn. (So there's not that long to wait!)

The prequel series is set around a decade before the events of the original series, though will apparently reference many of the original's most iconic aspects, with the inclusion of Klingons and Spock's father Sarek.

Star Trek: Discovery will air on CBS All Access in the US and Netflix in the UK.
