The Walking Dead to Bring Back of One of Its Greatest Villains – CBR – Comic Book Resources

Scott Gimple confirmed a project featuring a villain from The Walking Dead is in the works at AMC during the shows first-ever holiday special.

As plans to expand the world ofThe Walking Dead continue, chief content officer Scott Gimple has confirmed a projectabout one of its greatest villains is in development at AMC Networks.

"We're working on something with one of the great Walking Dead villains of all time, and it's coming together," Gimple said during The Walking Dead's first-ever holiday special. The special is streaming exclusively on AMC+ and is hosted by Chris Hardwick, host of AMC's companion talk showTalking Dead. Gimple's remarks stopped short of revealing which villain the project will center on, but the show's decade-long run has providednumerous memorable antagonists for such a project.

David Morrissey, who played the Governor, has expressedinterest inreturning to the fictional universe ofThe Walking Dead andreprising his role of the notorious Woodbury leader. He has pointed to a series of novels byRobert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga that chronicle the villain's backstory as potential source material for any project involving the character.

Ryan Hurst, who portrayed Whisperer villain Beta, has previouslyteased his character's backstory could be the focus of an episode ofTales of the Walking Dead, an episodic anthology series in the works at AMC. An episode in the flagship series'10th season highlighting Negan -- the villain known for wielding a bat wrapped in barb wire which he named Lucille (after his dead wife) -- and his backstory has alreadyfinishedproduction and is set to air in 2021.
