Walking Dead: Rick’s Best Partner Actually Survived The Entire Series – Screen Rant

Though Rick has lost his right hand, there are an assortment of allies which have made up for the setback.... but only one has stood the test of time.

Trustworthypartners are truly hard to come by in the ever-chaotic zombie apocalypse of The Walking Dead. Luckily, lead protagonist Rick Grimes has had a handful of right-hand men to choose from, but only one has remained loyal since day one: Jesus.

The zombie apocalypse is not the easiest environment to make friends, let alone trusted comrades. Former sheriff Rick Grimes has not only managed to survive due to his unparalleled survival instincts and natural-born talent as a leader but the equally skilled survivors under his command.Since the first issue of the series by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, Rick has had a capable co-lead by his side, up untilhis death years down the line.

The first mainstay in Rick's life was Shane, his former partner in law enforcement. Shane developed a relationship with Lori while Rick was in the hospital and impregnated her. After Rick awoke,an unhinged Shane is dispatched by Rick's own young son Carl after threatening his father's life. While Rick and Shane's relationship would take a turn for the worse, it is tragic to wonder if the two would have remained friends had the apocalypse never occurred. Rick would also make friends with Tyreese, a former NFL linebacker who would die at the hands of the Governor. Another close ally was Abraham, whose death led to Rick warring with the Saviors.

It would not be until Rick's arrival in D.C. that he would become acquainted with his longest-running point man Paul Monroe, acquiring the nickname Jesus. Jesus would promptly demonstrate his mastery of martial arts in dispatching several members of Rick's company. With the recent death of Abraham, Rick was in need of another right-hand man and Jesus was the clear choice. Not only was Jesus courteous and rational, but he had proved his worth in his trackingand fighting skills, even gaining a hit on the leader of the Saviors Negan himself.

Though Rick initially remaineddistrustfulof Jesus, Jesus would introduce Rick and his group of survivors to a larger world of communities, some friendly andothers not somuch. Jesus is the only partner of Rick's to survive thespan of the entire series, evenoutlivingthe lead himself. Earlier in the series, Tyreese and Abraham would come along to help Rick fill the void left by Shane, but Jesusremained the only partner not toharm Rick or any of his inner circle withmalicious intent. When it comes to Rick's s batch of confidantsinThe Walking Dead, Jesus is the man for the job.
