'Walking Dead' Season Three Puts Two Worlds On A Collision Course

We might still be months away from the season premiere of "The Walking Dead," but we're already becoming well acquainted with Michonne and The Governor.

The two newest characters to join "The Walking Dead's" ensemble cast are featured on two variant covers of this week's Entertainment Weekly. The magazine's cover story will offer a sneak peek at the AMC hit's third season, as well as introduce us to the katana-wielding zombie killer and the series' most terrifying villain yet as they both conflict with Rick and our favorite band of zombie apocalypse survivors.

"This season really is about setting up these two worlds and watching them come to a head and collide," creator Robert Kirkman told the mag. "And you know that there are going to be some pretty explosive encounters between Rick and the Governor. This season is going to be about getting to know these two characters, and then waiting for their eventual confrontation that could destroy everything."

We first met Michonne (played in season three by Danai Gurira) at the end of season two when she rescued Andrea (Laurie Holden) from certain death. We know from the comics that Michonne becomes a major ally of our favorite group of survivors, and one of the most interesting characters on the show.

The Governor is a different story. We haven't yet met the man who runs Woodbury, but the cast told us at Comic-Con that the Governor is one of the main parts of season three that fans should look forward to.

"I can't give anything away, but I will say that he's charming, devious, sexy and unbelievably evil," Holden said. "I think people are going to be knocked out, because he's a wonderful actor, he's fantastic. I can't imagine anyone else playing the Governor."

"The Walking Dead" returns on October 14.
