Gov. DeSantis’ recent hissy fit is the latest in a growing list | Column – Tampa Bay Times

Published Aug. 11

Are you beginning to get the sneaking suspicion Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has thinner skin than Aunt Bee stumbling into a Dave Chappelle stand-up routine?

It certainly doesnt take much to get the Beaver of the Fox News green room all flummoxed and pouty before he starts to stomp and whine and clutch his pearls unless he gets his way, whichever way that may be.

Disney takes issue with Gov. Crybaby over his dont say gay bill, and before you know it DeSantis moves to strip a Fortune 500 international corporation of its special taxing district status in Central Florida.

When various school districts parted ways with the governor over implementing COVID-19 measures such as wearing masks and getting vaccines, the Col. Kurtz of Tallahassee went after their budgets and school board member salaries.

Indeed when former Florida Surgeon General Scott Rivkees (note the word Former) had the audacity to publicly promote the wearing of masks during the height of the COVID pandemic in the presence of DeSantis no less the doctor was removed from the event while it was still in progress.

Rivkees found himself on the outs with Gov. Big Daddy after he committed the most unpardonable of sins in Florida government. He did his job. No good comes from this when the only apparent qualification for employment in the DeSantis administration is to be a bigger toady than Draculas Renfield.

Now DeSantis has unceremoniously removed Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren from office claiming Warren was a threat to democracy, which was pretty rich coming from a chap who has moved to make voting more difficult and who also cooked the books to reduce Black representation in Floridas congressional delegation.

The Rufus T. Firefly of Florida accused Warren of being soft on crime even though Warrens office has one of the highest felony conviction rates in the state. But Warrens real transgression appears to be a letter he signed along with nearly 100 other chief prosecutors across the country indicating he wouldnt enforce certain laws on abortion and transgender medical care.

Indeed, there is no law currently on the books banning puberty blockers for the treatment of transgender youth. So Warren partially was removed from office for not enforcing a law that doesnt exist.

Warren, who Hillsborough voters twice elected as their top prosecutor, has been critical of Gov. Snowflakes efforts to intrude upon the First Amendment rights of protestors and the patently ridiculous creation of a statewide law enforcement task force to ferret out voter fraud, which is rarer than a Black Lives Matter field office in The Villages.

DeSantis disingenuously tut-tutted that politics played no role in the removal of Warren. And if you believe that you also probably believe Gov. Hissy-Fit doesnt wake up every morning humming Hail to the Chief.

The Xi Jinping of the Apalachee Parkway took pains to suggest Warren was merely a tool of the 92-year-old Hungarian billionaire George Soros, who had indeed contributed to his campaign.

Ah yes, George Soros, who has become the favorite Republican boogeyman, vilified as a malevolent Blofeldesque mastermind sitting in his island redoubt stroking his cat and manipulating events in his quest for world domination.

Is Soros a wealthy benefactor of liberal causes? You betcha. His evil plots have involved such scandals as spreading democracy, improving education in developing countries, advocating for greater transparency in government, protecting civil liberties and promoting criminal justice reform. Oh, the venality of it all!

Is Soros a liberal? Sure. Does he have a right to engage in political activity? Duh.

But more importantly is Soros any different from the deep-pocketed donors who shovel tons of money to Republican candidates like DeSantis? The Mercers, the Kochs, the late Las Vegas mogul Sheldon Adelson, the Waltons, Peter Thiel and many others all have been extremely generous supporters of Republicans, which sort of puts a whole new spin on the term chump change.

And let us not forget the power Fox News mogul Rupert Murdoch wields in Republican Party affairs.

You can certainly disagree with decisions public officials make. But Andrew Warren enjoyed the trust and confidence of Hillsborough County voters who returned him to office fair and square because they believed he deserved a second term.

Alas, for the Caesar-lite of Tallahassee fair and square is simply another duplicitous plot cue the Jaws theme by George Soros.
