Either Stefan or Damon won’t survive the ‘Vampire Diaries’ finale & here’s why – Screener

The penultimate Vampire Diariesaired Friday (Mar. 3), and safe to say its far from the fairytale nuptials Caroline (Candice King) dreamt of growing up. But then, its not like she ever envisioned turning into a vampire either, and that turned out great!

Entitled Were Planning a June Wedding, the episode hearkens back to Season 1, when a young Caroline Forbes first spotted the mysterious new hot guy in the hallway, and jokingly announced to Bonnie she would marry Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley).

Now, here we are seven season later, ignoring the fact its super unsettling that Elenas (Nina Dobrev) best friend always had the hots for her boyfriend, standing in front of a huge crowd of compelled guests, while Caroline and Stefan (Paul Wesley) say, I do.

Alaric (Matt Davis) cant bear to watch the mother of his daughters marry someone else Lizzie and Josie (Tierney & Lily Rose Mumford) serve as flower girls but best friend Bonnie (Kat Graham), admirably, puts aside her beef with Stefan, eventually, to serve as Carolines maid of honor.

As the absolutely stunning bride walks down the aisle, beaming with happiness, a live orchestra playing in the background, for a moment, we forget that this all all just a charade to lureKatherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev) out of hell.

And thenStefan notices the something blue necklace around Carolines neck, a gift for which she thought was from him, is actually Katherines.

So, we know the Queen of Hell is somewhere close by. But when the newly ordained Damon (Ian Somerhalder) asks if there any objections to this union, theres nothing but silence.

I now pronounce you husband and wife, Damon says. And as Caroline and Stefan kiss, they receive a standing ovation from their compelled guests.

The wedding, however, especially for a last-minute to-do, turns out absolutelybeautiful. This series has always done a fantastic job of breaking up its grim storylines with refreshing moments that offer hope and the dinner and dancing afterwards at first look to only continue on with the good times. Whats a wedding without a drunk relative giving an inappropriate speech? But before we can blame Kelly Donovans (Melinda Clarke) antics on the open bar, a much darker truth is revealed

Kelly died two years ago, and was turned into vampire to do one day to Katherines bidding. Her attempt to blow up the house while Bonnie and twins are still inside fails to kill the intended, but Katherine already has a Plan B in place. She may be evil, but no one can fault the woman for her lack of quick wit or persistence.

Using yet another member of the Donovan to carry out her master plan since with Katherine, theres always a larger game at play Vicki (Kayla Ewell) is already standing at the bell tower, and itrings 12 times, all of Mystic Falls will burn with hell fire. Its a tense situation all memories of the picturesque wedding moments before, obliterated.

As Stefan approaches Bonnie, the first ring of the bell causes her to get that lethal Siren headache and pass out. However, as Enzos (Michael Malarkey)s ghost points out, Bonnie has her powers back. So, we can rest assured that shes not dead, despite the cliffhanger ending.

But with one episode left to go and with one major death already officially revealed inthe finale somebodys going down soon And theres only 44 minutes of airtime left for it to happen.

For this show to come to a forever end, we have to assume one of the Salvatore brothers will die. Their relationship, their bond is the true heart of this series, and without it, there is no show. Since Damon is still a vampire, all signs point toward human Stefan kicking the bucket. Whether he first lives a full happy life with Caroline at his side, or is brutally murdered by the woman whos rumored to be obsessed with him, well have to wait and see.

Any series finale needs to wrap up numerous story lines before the ending credits roll, and weve seen enough of the Donovans at least. Fingers crossed for a Six Feet Under type of close: A montage of scenes showing Bonnie, Elena, Caroline, Stefan, Matt, Damon, Alaric and the twins, all growing up through the years And perhaps, if or when they reunite in the afterlife.

Well have a box of tissues ready no matter what. Some goodbyes are harder than others.

The series finale of The Vampire Diaries airs Friday, Mar. 10, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
