Interview With The Vampire Series Casts Bailey Bass As Claudia For Upcoming AMC Adaptation – Comic Years

The newInterview With The Vampire adaptation for AMC is starting to come together, with a far more diverse cast than anyone anticipated. Reports confirm that young actress Bailey Bass will play the character of Claudia in Interview With The Vampire. This role was previously played by Kirsten Dunst in the 1994 adaptation of the Anne Rice novel.

Bailey Bass is a relative newcomer to acting, with a handful of credits to her name. Perhaps the most significant of these credits is her upcoming role of Tsireya in theAvatar sequels. Outside of this, she has had a few minor roles in film and television. So it is difficult to gauge her acting ability, or speculate on how she will portray the iconic vampire role. But her casting is a departure from the source material in several ways.

At 17 years old, Bass is significantly older than the character of Claudia. Dunst was also older than the character, but still very much a child when she played the role. In fact, Claudia is supposed to be a young child. In the source material, she is only 5 years old when Louis finds her starving in the streets. She is then turned by the vampire Lestat, and adopted as an immortal child for the vampire couple. The constant habit of ageing this character up significantly does diminish that aspect of the story quite a bit.

Another departure from the source material is the fact that Bass is also mixed-race. While this is obviously not how Claudia is written in the book, it is also not a change that will affect the story too much. In fact, this casting is perfectly in line with way AMC has approached casting for the series as a whole.

The Interview With The Vampire adaptation has already race-swapped the character of Louis by casting actor Jacob Anderson in the role. It is clear that AMC is dedicated to updating the story for a modern era. And since author Anne Rice is an executive producer on the series, it is worth noting that all of these choices have been approved by her.

With filming set forInterview With The Vampire set to begin this December in New Orleans, it should only be a matter of time before we learn about more casting news for the series.
