New Vampire Novel Intends to Refute the Path of Twilight

In Immortal Touch, debut author Ethan Peasleys vampires are not sparkly and romantic

The first book I ever read cover to cover was Bram Stokers Dracula, Peasley says, and that really affected me because I enjoyed Dracula more than any other character, and it made me want to read more and more books that had vampires in it. That evolved into watching vampire movies when I could, and eventually I started writing my own vampire stuff.

An excerpt from Immortal Touch:

I was not unlike most of your kind in my mortal years, always chasing after the girl I thought was the one for me, pining for her to say yes to my various and vastly numerous advances, staying up late to ensure that my work was complete, or drinking the home-brewed slaves wine with my fellow humans at the end of the night. Then, in my immortal years, when darkness kissed my lips with its velvety tongue and granted me sweet eternity, it all changed.

Asael was once a man. Now he drinks blood to stay alive and is haunted by memories. Others of his kind surround him: Mordecai, with his gentle nature; Nafretiti with her passionate spirit; and Cain, with his ancient wisdom. But when their resting place is attacked and their coven broken, they stand on the cusp of death, prepared to change the face of humanity forever.

I think Immortal Touch will appeal to readers because its a fresh take on the vampires, Peasley says, and it takes the modern view of vampires, which seems to view vampires as emotional and struggling with their inner demons, and the older view which is my personal favorite, the vampire that is just a killing machine.
