With the end of "The Vampire Diaries" at hand, it's time to talk about the elephant in the room -- and that's "The Originals."

For most fans, it's a foregone conclusion that at least some "TVD" characters will be making the jump to the spinoff, now that it's coming to a close. After all, there's eight whole seasons of character development to pull from! The stories of Mystic Falls may be ending, but that doesn't mean the people who populate it should, right?

Besides, it's not as if "Vampire Diaries" characters relocating to New Orleans would be much of a shock to the system, given where Season 3 of "The Originals" left off: In its fourth season, the series about the first family of vampires will see a five-year time jump that will rocket them long past the end of "The Vampire Diaries." Who's to say that a couple years after whatever goes down in this week's (Mar. 10)finale, certain characters wouldn't have gone looking for a change in scenery?

The question is: Who would be a good fit for "The Originals"?

Obviously, whoever makes it out of "The Vampire Diaries" finale alive is fair game, but we're comfortable saying the Salvatores (Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley) would really serve no purpose moving to the French Quarter. The last thing Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) need is competition in the brooding-vampire-brothers department.

That said, there are a few characters we think could make for perfect transplants...

Obviously Caroline Forbes is at the top of the list, having had an epic (yet brief) romance with Klaus Mikaelson. She may be married to Stefan now, but his very human lifespan won't last forever, and Klaus did "intend to be her last." Caroline hasalso got a bit of history with Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and Rebekah (Claire Holt)-- and can you really imagine a more perfect girl squad than those three?

We know, we know -- Tyler's dead. But seriously, when has that EVER stopped a character from getting some screen time on either "The Vampire Diaries" or "The Originals?"

We always thought Tyler's epic feud with Klaus would have made him a good transplant character-- and who's to say he won't escape from hell in the finale and return to the world of the living?

This one is a long shot, since Nina Dobrev seems to have left the world of vampires for good. Still, there was something wickedly wonderful about Katherine's combative dynamic with Klaus-- and she had a pretty epic romance with Elijah too. We're not usually advocates for love triangles, but we'd pay good money to see Katherine, Elijah and Hayleytry to navigate those waters...

Alaric is already headed to "The Originals" in Season 4 for a crossover, so who's to say he won't just settle into New Orleans for good? He's got to set up his magical school for his daughters someplace, right? Plus, the twins are kind of in desperate need of a good witch teacher, and there are quite a few of them in the French Quarter.

"The Vampire Diaries" series finale airs Friday, Mar. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. The 13-episode fourth season of "The Originals" begins the following week in the same timeslot.
