HBOs I May Destroy You is a rebellious, must-watch work of art from rising British star Michaela Coel. Set in modern day London, I May Destroy You follows an exuberant young writer named Arabella (Coel) who has a voracious lust for life. It takes her to the beaches of Italy, the top of the bestsellers list, and in the path of peril. In I May Destroy You Episode 1, Eyes Eyes Eyes Eyes, Arabella skips out on an all-nighter writing marathon to party with some friends. The next morning, though, it seems shes lost key hours of her life. Arabellas journey navigating this trauma forces her, and her friends, to examine their own relationships and the nebulous grey areas of sex, power, and consent.

The first season of I May Destroy You is 12 episodes long. New episodes will premiere on HBO on Sundays at 10:30 PM, and each new installment will twist your perspective on the story further. Coel writes in such a way that she uses time, viewpoint, and setting to force us, the audience, to constantly reconsider our opinion of events. Someone who comes across as an asshole at first might later be revealed as a man capable of chivalry, and vice versa, until something approaching the full story becomes clear.

Michaela Coel is a 32-year-old British actress and writer from London, England. She is the daughter of Ghanian immigrants to the UK and grew up in the Hackney area (which is where I May Destroy You is set). After meeting Ch Walker in London open mics, she began studying drama, first with Walker at a RADA workshop, and later at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Coels senior project at drama school was a one-woman show called Chewing Gum Dreams. The play was a success and later picked up as a series called Chewing Gum by Netflix and the BBC.

In addition to her work as a poet, Coel has appeared in Black Mirror, twice, Top Boy, Been So Long, and Black Earth Rising.

Also starring in I May Destroy You are Weruche Opia as Arabellas best friend, aspiring actress, Terry and Paapa Essiedu as her other other best friend, the sexually confident Kwame.
